NSV (Non-Scale Victories)

Just thought we could have a thread where we could share our NSV. I have three so far!

I've exercised 5 days in a row.
I've maintained my weight.
I fit into a dress I haven't been able to wear in a few months and I looked good in it.

    I've exercised 7 days in a row.
I went one day without dessert/sweets.
I am drinking at least 10 cups of water per day.

    Massively changed body shape
Gone from struggling to do 4km in 20 minutes on the stationary bike to doing 8.7km in 30 minutes.
    Increased my water intake to 7-8 glasses (1.75 - 2L) a day
  • These are all very good ladies!!!

For me, I've driven right past my usual morning stop, Dunkin Donuts, everyday since this challenge. This is a HUGE victory for me!!!!!
  • That's awesome for all of you, and I'd die if I had to drive past a Starbucks, my coffee staple, every day without stopping. I'm saving a Starbucks coffee for every time I lose 10 lbs. :)

It just dawned on me that I drove straight home from Trader Joe's without making my usual detour: Dairy Queen! I can't remember the last time I didn't drive through for a medium-sized vanilla cone.

Jogged up the stairs to fourth floor today and heart rate only elevated a little and I wasn't out of breath...
Have to push it a lot harder on elliptical now to get the same calorie burn..
Shirts that were tight at the bottom (but I hadn't bought new because I refused to buy XXL) are starting to fit looser..
  • I haven't had an energy drink or creamer since we started this challenge. A HUGE DEAL!

I wore a pair of pants to work this week (which technically are maternity pants) that I "grew" out of. So eventhough they are still not regular pants, it's still a victory.

I've declined 3 occasions this week to drink/have cocktails. (I am limiting my drinking to once a week.)

I am so proud of everyone!!! What amazing NSV's we've had this week!!

Last night, my parents were drinking whiskey and coke and eating m&m's (OMG, all my favourites in one place) and I chose to have a diet cordial and go get my protein snacks instead. Also, in a random dreamy psychological-ly win, I got myself a bowl of icecream in my dream and then chucked it in the bin, saying "No, no, no. No."

Great stuff this week, folks! Mods - maybe this would be a good thread to make a "sticky" one, so it stays up at the top? I think the more NSVs we post, the more everyone will recognize the various ways they are improving their health and fitness and stay more motivated.
  • I put on an old XXL shirt today because I was sick. Normally it's just a little big since I'm an XL, but it felt much looser. Put a smile on my face.

A week ago, I did 8km in 30 mins on a stationary bike and wobbled around, gasping for air and moaning, for about an hour afterwards. Last night, I got on the bike (after already attempting a pilates workout and taking the dogs for a run) and easily did the same and felt fine! That was a nice realisation.

    what a great idea!
  • I have a pair of bicycle shorts that were on my checklist of able to wear when I'm skinny..... Tried them on this morning and they slid on for the first time. They're still not where I can tie them, which would be great, but I'm still really excited because even if I haven't lost weight when I weigh in, I'm making progress!!!

    ...I passed by starbucks...

Stuff like this is the toughest for me. Not Starbucks, per se but convenient stores. A bad habit I developed about 10 years ago, while flagging for a construction crew, was stopping at convenient stores all the time. You couldn't help it--you shared a truck with 3 other flaggers, and the driver would invariably stop at the convenient store between jobs or on breaks. Then you'd load up on candy and chips and soda, even if you brought a lunch.

To this day, when I'm driving between jobs, it takes a lot of willpower for me not to drop into 7-eleven for one of those nasty-but-oh-so-yummy deep fried taquitos.

So good job on resisting the Siren's song of the Starbucks stop. :)

My own NSV: After a bit of work yesterday in a neighboring town, I managed to talk a friend of mine into another hike: 5.5 miles to the top of a small butte just outside of town, for a total elevation gain of 1200-ish feet. I lugged up all my photo equipment (since I had it with me...weighed it when I got home, and it clocks in at 20#) and even got a few great sunset pics.

It's the 2nd week in a row I've gone out hiking, which is my New Year's resolution monthly quota. I think I'm going to squeeze a snowshoe trip (hiking on snow) in next weekend for good measure. That, and I haven't slept in a snowcave for 3-4 years.

Oh, hiking! The walking that dreams are made of! Congrats on following through with your resolution, and on a great NSV! =)

Absolutely! You can see how your sides are starting to curve in to form the 'hourglass' shape, and you hold yourself differently, indicating a loss of mass. Well done!

Amazing job everyone! I love hearing all these NSV. It's important to remember them because focusing only on the numbers on a scale can be frustrating at times.

NSV for me. I've been keeping up with my exercise 5x a week. Whoohoo! I'm sticking to my routine this time. Also, I haven't had soda since the challenge started which is good for me because I do love me some Dr. Pepper and a Coke every once in while.

On a side note, I got new glasses this week and I love them. I'll try to post a new profile pic soon! haha

*I've logged my food and exercise on MFP every day this year.
*I cut out soda back in December and now only drink water, sustain from melaleuca, green tea and once a week as a treat, earl grey or coffee (haven't had the coffee yet this year).
*I'm working out 4 days, resting a day, working out 4 days, resting a day (although my last rest day I had too much energy to actually "rest". Today is my rest day, we shall see how I do, lol
*My size 12's are starting to get looser and I was able to comfortably wear a size 10 all day (although it hurt my hips at the end of the day)
*I'm getting more sleep at night and haven't had any more bouts of insomnia since the last few days in December
