wish I could be happy with the reduction, still sick. Got sent home today by the owner so back to bed I go. New antibiotics over the weekend. Hoping they kick in soon. No training or therapy again this week. Los of fluids, not many solids. Tried a piece of chicken the otherday without success. Keeping it light.

Lois - Sorry to hear that you're STILL sick! The numbers look good though Maybe they'll stay that way! I have been sick before and was surprised that once I started eating more again that my numbers didn't increase, as long as I was watching what i was eating.
Sheesh - At least it's not a plus! In my opinion, 1000 calories as day is too little, especially for your weight. What's your goal weight? Are you sure you're tracking absolutely everything that you're taking in? I have started not eating or drinking anything after Supper. I find that it plays around with my scale too much and makes my numbers look worse than they are. Have you double checked your goal settings on the fitbit site? Maybe you need to readjust it? I would love to be 135 right about now Soon I'll get there.0 -

I'm super happy with that. It's funny because I actually didn't remember what I was last week when I came on here, so I had to go back and copy and paste my post. When I weighed myself this morning, I was a bit disappointed in my numbers because I felt they weren't good enough, but then I looked at how much of a change that was... now I'm happy
It's my long day of driving for 8 hours up to work. Not many steps in today, but I'll do what I can!0 -
Kelly, LOL about your bumping and jumping and setting a good example for the neighbors
Sheesh, I have to agree with the 1000 cal not being enough. I run between 1100-1300 most of the time and it is about the lowest I've found to get in a little variety without being hungry. What I'm focused on now is making sure I have a burn at least 500 calories higher than my daily intake, regardless of what that turns out to be.
I am feeling a lot better today (was still a bit down on Monday but it was a simple cold, nothing like what Lois has been battling). My biggest issue is that I use a cpap when I sleep and if I have a stuffy nose, it doesn't work so I don't sleep well and don't get the rest I need. Soooo glad to have that behind me.
Anyways, I have renewed my efforts to get the exercise in and am waiting patiently for results.

Light, I'm so glad you're feeling better! Go easy on the activity . . I had a setback after going too hard after my cold. I think you and Kelly are probably right about 1,000 calories being too low. After trying it for a couple of days, I was just too hungry, especially at night. So, I'm just going to have to be more patient. It's hard to lose when the BMR is so low (being 61 years old, female, and short)!! I was thinking I might try 1,300 most days, but drop to 1,000 one or two days a week.
Kelly, a couple years ago I got down to 121 or so. I looked great! It was when I first started with my trainer. She took a photo of me and put it on her board. It's depressing to see it when I go to her now. I would love to get back down to 120, but I would accept 125. I'm a very small bone structure, and tend to gain only on my torso. :grumble: Clothes fit so much better at 120 - 125. Dang the last 10 to 15 pounds!!0 -

I agree with Kelly and Light tht 1,000 cals per day is not going to be enough, especially with the working out that you do regularly.
I'm finally on the mend. I'm back to work most of the day (except with the owner kicks me out - yesterday he didn't and he's not here today). Still coughing, but no more fever. On the tail end of the last round of antibiotics as well. Getting an appetite, which is good. I did eat a small portion of meatloaf and taters with hubby last night. Otherwise, it's been crackers, soups, the activia for my tummy issues from the antibiotics, lots and lots of cough syrup and drops and TONS of warm water.
Light - I'm happy to see you on the rebound.
I sneaked a peek at the scale this morning and I was at 197.8. So it's creeping back up, which is expected. I brought soup for lunch today and we're having grilled chicken with zucchini for dinner. Working on great selections as I ease back into eating. I need to increase my food from the soups so that I can go back to training and therapy next week. Hoping for a short easy hike over the weekend. Unlike most of the country - we've had exceptionally beautiful weather while I've been home. That has been tortorous on a certain level (actually only the past few days that I've felt a wee bit better). I will not be going full speed ahead when I return to training/therapy...going to keep it light for at least another week.
I do have a challenge in front of me...two day passes to the Phoenix Open in the corporate tent sections (free food and drink all day). I do tend to party with the group I'm going with next Saturday...Wednesday's group may be more manageable...the Saturday group - well they talk biz for a bit and then it's cocktails and food. I never thought I'd enjoy golf, but the corporate tents are a lot of fun. Yes, we do watch the players as well.
Oh jump back to the football game last Sunday - did anyone watch it? Remember when the 49ers Bowman, #53, was injured...yeah that's kind of what my knee did when I severed the acl...oh boy did I cringe during the replay. Hubby had a better understanding of what I had attempted to describe to him. Fortunately, my guy got up off of me relatively quickly, unlike the dog pile that he experienced.

Better than I thought! I thought for sure I would have been up 2 lbs as mid-week I WAS up 2! This week wasn't going in the right direction either, but when I weighed at the gym today I am down again a bit, so it is looking better for Monday. I just have to behave on Sunday at the church fellowship meal!
Sheesh, I agree 1000 cals is too low. I tried it too a couple of days to make up for a couple of days when I was over, and it was just not good! For me, 1200 is the bare minimum, which due to my height I am almost down to for a goal and so I think I am going to have to step up the exercise so I can have an evening snack!
Sorry to hear about all you who are sick, especially on antibiotics. After my little bout with having to take them, I will always try to take probiotics when on them to get my gut back in order! I couldn't believe that there were many times I wanted to have something to eat, but just couldn't! It was weird.
I have so much stuff to do here, I better turn this computer off for a while! I have to do dishes and tidy the kitchen, throw my gym stuff in the laundry plus do other laundry, work a bit more on cleaning up the spare room (full of craft stuff), and I want to do a little sewing (I quilt, obviously! LOL!) Not to mention vacuuming, so I won't - ha!0 -

Iquiltoo - Great loss! It's so much better when we see that scale go down instead of up! Did you say you live in Alberta?? I think you and I are the only Canadian's on this board. Man we're tough lol I'm currently in Northern Manitoba, where I work, and the temperature is -28 with a -41 windchill.... but I still managed to walk to work and get over 1000 steps in :bigsmile: My legs just about froze off, but ah well :laugh:
Sheesh - I'm already noticing my clothes are starting to fit better! It's soo nice because I bought a bunch of clothes when I was down to 140 and they're starting to fit again! I agree with Lois when she says you can do it! Especially with the holidays over.. It's just mind over matter and you're super active, so YOU CAN DO IT!! lol

Sorry that I have missing in action, ladies. I knew that the first couple of weeks after the Report was released that we'd be busy--and we have been. Everything on our Website has to be updated to show new estimates. And it's not just replacing figures. I wish it were. Usually it means doing analyses and checking things with experts that are never available and then renumbering reference lists and making sure all that is correct. So I've been working 10-12 hour days.
Add to that that we had a wake to attend one night this week, I still did my volunteer work on two nights, and I tried to get to the mall to walk (only missed one day this week--the day of wake), and I haven't had much personal time on the computer. It's about all I can do to log my food and upload my bugg. I think I'm up about a pound, but I don't know. My weight has been fluctuating 2-3 pounds one day to the next.
I'm even having to work this weekend, but I wanted to jump on here to let you know that the shooting in a Maryland mall happened at a mall on the other side of DC. I'm in the suburbs on the northwest side; this was the northeast side.
Glad to hear that you're feeling better Lois, Iquiltoo, and Sheesh. And it's good to see you back on the board, Iquiltoo. My height also means that my intake needs to be pretty low to get any type of weight off--but I can't hold at 1000 calories a day either, unless I just plain don't eat--and that's not healthy. When I don't eat, I seem less hungry than when I try to eat very moderately.
When I log every bite as well as I can and add that 200 extra calories to offset labels errors and such, I hit close to 1500 even on days when I feel like I've eaten moderately and wisely. Honestly, three 350 calorie meals, two 100 calories snacks, and 200 balance calories is 1450. Adds up fast.
Well, I need to work a little more, and then get to the mall to walk. Kelly, I don't know how you walk in those temps, but you go girl! We've been in the minus double digits this week with the wind chill, but nothing like you describe. In some ways, I do like winter though. I hate heat and humidity, which metro DC has lots of in the summer months.0 -

So glad everyone is on the mend from our injuries and illnesses. Lois, for me the cough hung on the longest. I'm just now getting completely rid of it. I really enjoy going to golf tournaments, and playing golf! I used to play more when I was younger and we belonged to a club. But, once the kids left home we gave up the club. Just not using the pool and other facilities enough to justify the cost. Anyway, have fun attending the Open.
Iquiltoo, congrats on the loss! You're doing great . . Just look at how much weight you've lost! Amazing!

Sheesh, I think I will take up golf if I ever get to retire. Years ago I played a few times and enjoyed it. Then hubby bought me some clubs, but they have just gathered dust.
I haven't uploaded yet, but I did take a break to walk. I didn't however, avoid that nice bag of chips hubby had on the coffee table. I'm over my intake goal about 100 calories. Means I must try to move more tomorrow. Also have to work again for part of the day.
I am kitty-sitting for the neighbors next door which means I'll walk over there several times day and climb lot of steps while there.
I am so tired that when I logged on here, instead of hitting the icon to enter the thread, I hit the green "leave the group" button, and then I had to join again. So I'm the newest member, lol. It's midnight here, so off to bed. :-)0 -
Aargh! now I have caught some bug and am sick again. Not really desperately badly, but I just keep thinking it's going to get worse. And unfortunately, I have fallen way off the ... no, let's rephrase that - I have jumped ONTO the food wagon and am snarfing my way through everything... sigh... On Friday I was down a pound and thought yay! that will be good for Monday. Today I am thinking I will be lucky if I only gain a pound. Sounds like a few of us are struggling.
Kelly - yes, I am in Alberta. The weather has been nice-ish for a couple of weeks, thankfully! I could never live in Manitoba, you guys seem to lock in the cold for the winter.
Other than being sick, I am at least getting some sewing done. I have three quilts to finish by June, four if I count the little one for the baby that I want to do but not sure if I will have time, and time is running away. I HAD lots of time when I started them, but last year I just couldn't get into sewing for some reason. Now I would sew all day, but I have a problem rib that pains me after sitting too long sewing! (I have some friends that used to live here that moved back to the US about 15 years ago, and the whole family (2 parents + 4 children, plus 3 spouses and one baby are coming). I have one quilt done for one of the kids, and the parents aren't getting one... LOL! Actually, they may later, but not this year.

I spent too much time quilting this afternoon so am running short on time before falling into bed. Got my steps in, evaluated how things have gone this week while changing my strategies. Disappointed in the lack of progress compared to all the effort but we'll see how it goes over the next month.
Sarah, I'm glad the shooting wasn't in your mall... still, a bit too close for comfort, huh? I don't understand how crazy our world has become, all the senseless violence and shootings. Hope your work will settle down, but at least you've got a job I remember not that long ago being concerned about your job situation. Sorry to hear about the loss of one of your friends. ((hugs))
Kelly, I can't imagine going out for a walk in such frigid conditions. More power to you! That is dedication. I'd be doing something indoors in the heat, LOL. I'm such a wimp, I complain when we hit the 40's and 50's. Congrats on getting the clothes to fit better
Lois, sounds like you're still hanging in there and slowly improving. Hope you will be back to normal soon. Gee, but you've had a tough year. How'd you do at the golf event?

The problem with quilting/sewing is that it can easily eat up a weekend/week and not allow for any activity. I have to give myself a time limit or get my exercises in before I start. Frustrating, as I'd much rather sit all day and get the quilt top made. Sounds like you've bitten off a bit more than you can chew with all those quilts at once. Do you hand quilt or machine quilt? Do you applique or are you a piece quilter?
I am a piecer and scrapper. Right now I'm putting together a small lap size quilt out of my scraps to keep the cat from kneading my lap when she settle down. Anyways, I was on my way to bed and I'd best shut this thing down...0 -

Andrea - rest and beat whatever you have before you get too sick. And I agree, that you have a ton of quilting....I gave it up because it is a time sucker...it's enjoyable, but you can lose 4-7 hours without realzing it.
Sheesh and Kelly - you ladies are amazing. I had a bit of trouble syncing my fitbit, but finally got it going again and you two are rocking the leaderboard
Sarah - golf is a lot of fun. I don't play well enough to pay, so I usually only play best ball scrambles (our courses are uber expensive - especially this time of year where we are in the low-mid 70's). But it is a lot of fun.
Light - keep finding ways to keep movin'
Well, I fear today may be my last day in Onderland. I've begun eating (healthy I might add), but as I'm increasing my intake, my numbers are going up. I feel like I may FINALLY be on the mend. Going to take the week off from training and therapy still (still have some antibiotic related issues that I can't seem to get under control). The issues are easily handled in normal life, but exercising could cause some embarrassment, so I'd rather not. The probiotics and immodium are doing very little to help...but the antibiotic is working, so I will deal for another week.
I will not be playing in the Open, I'll be watching. Wed is at the 16th hole (serious party hole all the time - short Par 3 surrounded by grandstands. That's where they will have the caddy races and throw goodies into the stands. It is the least serious hole of all 18. Such a beautiful course. Saturday I'll be at either hole 17 or 18. Great view of the green at either hole. Look for my curlies - haha among the 10k+ other people.
Tomorrow's the official weigh day, but if it means I'm feeling better, I'll be happy with the 200's. Friday was horrible coughing spasms that sent me home again...Saturday I shopped for an hour and then crashed into coughing spasms. Sunday I actually felt a bit better and was successful at packing away the Christmas decorations - we still have to dissassemble the tree and pack it, but everything else is put away. Working today and so far the coughing is minimal and not as intense...fingers crossed this continues.

Worked about 5-6 hours on both Saturday and Sunday, but just finally uploaded and was happy to see that I broke 1800 for my burn both days, even having sit on my tush for a large part of them.
Light, you're right. Being a contractor, I never know when my work will end. That could happen no matter how good a job I do. So I try to stay grateful and realize that there are times when things are more hectic than others. (Of course, I do like to whine about working this hard at 61--but goodness, I could be unable to work or unable to find work.) I have a friend who is lucky enough to have two homes, but the primary residence was broken into recently, and then last week, a pipe froze and burst in the beach house while no one was there, and they had very, very extensive damage. They're tearing back to the studs. And yet, she finds ways to be grateful. (They weren't home when the primary house was burglarized, and the insurance is paying for the damage on the other one and they have a warm, dry house to stay in while that's being done.) Quite a lesson. Life is mostly perspective. Some things are bigger than that--but most of our day-to-day problems boil down to perspective.
So--I am looking forward to getting to the mall tonight to walk, and I do so hope that I see my walking friend, as that makes it so much more fun--and she often comes on Monday evenings.0 -

Thanks for the well wishes. I just had a really bad cold. Seems to be going away now. I found some Nyquil at the corner store, and it really helped especially at night with keeping my nose from dripping and from getting a sinus headache like I had on Monday. I haven't weighed yet this week, and I did eat really badly, so I am not looking forward to going to the gym tomorrow. But when I look back over the past 9 or 10 months, I haven't had any really bad setbacks or plateaus, and I know what I have been doing wrong and can certainly fix it! Today I have done pretty well. Tomorrow is my birthday and we're going out to Swiss Chalet, and I have already planned my whole day so I can have my favorite chicken dinner.
Sewing can be a time sucker, that's for sure, but I am retired, and I guess that's my thing for now! Except I need desperately to get my back room tidied. Long story short - after Mom died, I got all her craft stuff... so you can imagine. I spent a lot of today working on that. A large part of it is just moving stuff out of that room, assessing what can go where, then box by box putting it back in its proper place or sending the stuff out to the thrift store. While I have been sick, I sewed up four small oven mitt thingies (they're oval, with a pocket at each end) and cut out two more. Yes, I should be working on "those" quilts but they required more concentration!
Lastchance, I sooo understand about the antibiotics! I really feel for you.
Light, you asked if I hand or machine quilt, piece or applique - I am a piecer, I do some hand applique but mostly buttonhole stitch. I have a new to me machine that does a much better satin stitch so I may try some of that. If it works well, then I will do more! I machine quilt smaller things, but bigger quilts I send to a long arm quilter as the bigger ones are usually too heavy for me to shift around.0
