Hello, I am new to fitness pal. I am currently hyper but due to having toxic multinodular goiter I am going to be hypo if I have surgery. Does anyone have any tips at getting through this. Plus not gaining too much weight.
Thanks

I have been hypo for 7 and a half years. I take 100mcg Levothyroxine. I have lost almost 50 pounds and need to lose about 50 more. I am slow to lose, but am going the right direction!!!0

You will lose weight slower than most. (Before my diagnosis I was quickly gaining, so any loss was a big improvement.) Do not give up.0

I was extremely hyperthyroid(resting hr 130) and had to have the radioactive iodine treatment to basically kill off my thyroid. It took a while for my levels to settle, and I now currently take 175mcg of synthroid every day to stay at the normal tsh levels. I had gained a lot of weight from it, but I am now losing pretty steadily. I wish you the best of luck!0

Make sure you know your TSH and free T3 and free T4 levels--know what standard your doc and lab uses as "normal" (they vary) and don't hesitate to advocate for yourself if you aren't feeling well. It takes 8 weeks for the meds to fully integrate into your system, but the side effects can greatly impact your life and health (weight gain, fatigue, hair loss, high blood pressure, high cholesterol). It's important that you advocate for yourself. If your doc won't listen, find one who will.
I take 88 mg of T4 and 15mg of T3 every day. Finally feeling like myself after a long time. Took me about 6-7 years. My thyroid was unusually naughty.0
