This diet is basically JUDD under a different name. An interesting article this month in The Atlantic about its effectiveness. http://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2014/01/the-new-way-to-love-food/283276/
What I found particularly interesting is Dr Varney says that they have found that the 5:2 diet, or Eat Stop Eat died of 2 days of fasting (1/4 calories of TDEE) a week does not have the same appetite suppressant effect on the feast (or UP days) as fasting every other day. I have tried both, and find this to be true. I am trying right now to fast (or eat very low calorie) 3 set days a week. I prefer to have a regular schedule. I have much better appetite control on my UP days than I did with Eat Stop Eat. My biggest problem is that it has been very cold here in WA and on fast days I am freezing!

  • Thanks for sharing! I love reading any info I can. I like to see how other people do with this way of eating. I'm definitely going to check it out:)

Dr Varadys diet was featured in the Telegraph New Years weekend. The health benefits as well as weight loss instantly made me decide to try it.

Because you only have to contend with one day's 'dieting' ata time it makes it easier. You can eat what you want on feast days. If you stick to the calorie count you lose weight at a reasonable rate and feel great.

This seems to nbe much more sustainable than anything I have tried before.

If you've watched the 5:2 Mosley video from the BBC - Dr. Varady is in it at about the halfway mark when they are in Chicago.

They talk about mice, alternate day fasting and then eat a cheeseburger. :)

Exercising and hot baths help me with the freezing.

I exercise very hard at the gym on my up days (I might only list 45 minutes of exercise but it is usually 75 minutes), but I find vigorous exercise on my fast days makes me very hungry.

JUDDD diet has a calculator that tells you your up day calories and your down day..............
EOD diet.......eat 500 and normal day eat whatever you want and you don't have to keep track, so there is a slight difference.
most JUDDD will alternate and take wknds off.
varady reccommends eating your 500 between 12pm-2pm or in one meal, tho many will break it up.
I prefer using them in one meal and I use mine as late as possible........I don't think I could survive taking them between 12-2pm lol
