Praise and Testimonies of God's Work

We were chatting about the need for a thread that gives people a chance to share our incredible stories. We are encouraged by the successes of others.

Many of the 'stories' in the Scriptures are testimonies of God at work in the lives of real people.

So here is your chance. Share a story...or many stories...of how the Lord has worked in your life or the life of someone you know or have heard of.

Blessings,
ChapLynne

I never get tired of praising God for what he did for me, regarding my eating disorder. From age 9 until 60 I either dieted,
purged, binged, chewed food and spit it out, over exercised. Each day every moment all I did was think of either withholding
food or eating it. It was a miserable life. Food in my head each day. Promising myself every day that I would start to eat
breakfast, and than would not eat again for hours. I would eat breakfast, and was either on a roll dieting and witholding food
until I was starving, miserable all the time, or I went to the fridge, cupboards, or when I could drive a restaurant or drive in
    restaurant several times a day.

On April 10, 2003, I finally took action. I never thought to ask God to help me. I never even imagined I could ask him
to help me to become a normal eater. I prayed that night until I felt as though I was not even in my own body. After that
prayer I got up the next day and ate every 5 hours. Breakfast, lunch, dinner. Never for 10 years eating inbetween. God
was my pilot, me the co-pilot. I did this for 3 months and by that time my clothes were about falling off of me. I because
every emotional and felt every one of my emotions, as I had been stuffing them with food for years. Some times even
now I walk to the refrigerator when I am tired. Go to the cupboards when I am in pain. I than stop and think I am not
hungry I am tired, I am not hungry I am in pain. God did for me what I could never do for myself. I took 80 lbs
off during about 2 years and kept it off for almost 11 years now. I want to lose about 14 more lbs. I do not want
to weigh too little as I am 70 and dont want to look 90. My doctor said that she thinks I look fine even though
I am not a skinny minnie.

I enjoy life, read, walk, golf, dance on my trampoline, run on my trampoline (thanks to Chaplynne) I got one. I do
not obesss with food all day each day. God did this for me. I tell many people who are overweight and am never
afraid to say it is my miracle. Thank you.

    Wonderful Words, Harriet!
    Thanks for sharing. :)

I have a story to share, from my Dad (who was a pastor--clearly the family business LOL)

My dad was a pastor and lived/worked starting a youth ministry and church in a small town. He dreamed of a church in the vacant lot on the main boulevard, yet way out on the outskirts of town. He envisioned a colonial red brick sanctuary with a white steeple/spire--classic looking church.

The vacant property was owned by a Jewish woman, who expressed her hatred of Christians (she earned her income in the liquor store business. Stores were prohibited by town statute to be anywhere near a church.)

My dad knew her secretary, who was a Christian. She called my dad one day and said, "If you want to ask to buy the property, try today."

So my dad jumped in his car and drove an hour to where the woman lived. On the way, he prayed for the words to say. He said, "If you get me in the door to talk to her I'll talk to her about you."

When he arrived, the secretary let him in the house.

For an hour, my dad presented why the church would be an asset to the community, to the boulevard which would grow up and become a part of the city rather than the outskirts etc.

She was resolute. Immovable. Not interested at all.

My dad got up to leave, thinking he had exhausted his appeal. As he approached the door, he heard a voice in his head nudge him, "I thought you said you would tell her about me if I got you in the door."

He pulled up and turned around, taking his New Testament from his jacket pocket.

"Before I go, I want to share about a countryman of yours." He opened to John 3 and began reading, "There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews...."

When he finished reading the entire chapter, she said, "Young man sit down. I can see you're a man with a good cause. I am going to sell you that property."

The property was valued at $40,000 in 1938. She said, "How much can you afford?"

    "$10000.00 with $3000 down"

    "Sold."

Her family tried to talk her out of it. But they didn't. She remained firm.

They bought the property and built the church. My Dad is long since dead (55 years) and the main street grew up around the church. A major freeway was constructed next to it and the exit off the freeway faces the church as they come off and are stopped at the light. People are reminded of God every time they stop at the light.

Here is a photo of the church my Dad started and designed.

All due to God intervening miraculously. Not for a thing he did. He couldn't talk her into it, but God did.

I haven't been back for many years. I don't live near there anymore.

    But the ministry goes on...

I love these testimonies! They encourage me so much! When I was 2 years old, I was diagnosed with leukemia. Very sick. My grandmother and mom prayed for me. Mom stayed with me in the hospital every day. I couldn't eat; and they were drawing blood out of my neck because my veins collapsed everywhere else. One day, the dr. came in and said they were releasing us the next day. Misunderstanding, with tears in her eyes, mom said, "Isn't there anything else we can do?" The dr. said, "She's going home because there's no sign of leukemia!" Hallelujah !!! Praise God!

So many things have gone amiss through this move, but for everything that has gone wrong, there is another thing that has been practically miraculous.

A constant reminder that God works all things together for good--to those who love God and are called according to his purpose!

I am grateful how the Lord has sustained me through these years of challenges. I particularly rejoice in Joseph's story of dreams coming true.

I feel ours are coming true. I am glad for those of you who have shared how your dreams are coming true.

    Blessings,
