sugar

I'm just getting started on the Atkins diet and I have been craving sweets. I know I have to wait til past stage 1 but I've noticed that I haven't been able to find a low carb dessert recipe that doesn't call for a sugar substitue. I'm allergic to those and get bad reactions so does that mean I'm out of luck sweet wise?

After a few days I'm finding whipped cream tastes so sweet! Some cheeses do too.
If you can work in blueberries its ok, but at first I think that isnt the best idea.
Blueberries and cream sounds sweet!
I gave up sugar years ago, so my sweet tooth is more sensitive now.
Sometimes even cabbage can be a sweet taste now days.
Hang in there and good luck!0 -
whipped cream or some cream cheese concoction may work.0

Is liquid Stevia out for you as well? We mix whipping cream and sour cream together with a vanilla flavored stevia, and then put it over berries (we started with blueberries, raspberries and blackberries, mixed together.) It tastes like dessert! If you can't do Stevia, try it without, because it will taste sweet once your palette adjusts. I've noticed that foods taste very different after two months on Atkins.0

sabradog, these ideas sound delicious.
strawberries are lower carbs than blueberries, right?0 -
I've never tried Stevia but my mom used to use it all the time and realized it was making her sick, so its probably best I not even try it. They put so many chemicals in stuff nowadays that even if they say its all natural, its hard to tell if it really is. Once I get into OWL I'll be adding some berries for sure! My cravings are starting to get a little better already.0

I never thought stevia tasted very good either.
Its just as easy to make things sweet by adding fat like nuts or cream.
Right now cream is my sweet thing!
Most artificial sweeteners give me a headache, been avoiding them for years.
I thought Atkins himself advised against them, is that true?0 -
I saw something new in the store and tried to research it on my phone but figured I'd buy it in case they don't have it next time. Its monk fruit sugar substitute, I used to eat Arctic Zero ice cream and they use monk fruit so since I've never had a reaction to it I thought I'd give it a try. Has anyone else ever used it?0
