Today I'm hoping to do a water aerobics class for my exercise, followed by flyball practice with Fells for his exercise. My other dog, Colin, doesn't do flyball any longer because he keeps hurting himself. It a shame, because he likes the sport, but I could never properly teach him the correct technique, so he really did keep getting injured when he was doing it. I guess, just like people, some sports can be a lot more difficult than others for them. Colin is fit and active, but just not flyball material.
Sherry, since I've been reading your posts I've been dreaming about idyllic Greece, running along the ocean and swimming in the sea, rather than running through the snow, slush, and ice and swimming in a clorinated pool (although I think that our community pool is actually a nice pool).
Hope everyone has a great day, wherever they live!0 -
Yesterday I missed my workout after all. I ended up leaving work almost an hour later than I'd expected and I had the worst headache and nausea on my way home. SO I went home and crashed. I still have a headache this morning but no more nausea. So I'm still planning to get today's workout in. - Body Pump is tonight and I NEED to go.0

Donna, you are so multi-talented with the doggies: owner/petparent, trainer, handler, coach. Greece is nice, but of course this is the rainy season so we never know what we'll get. It happens to be a mild Winter this year, but it's really only the older folks who are accustomed who go swimming in the sea this time of year (sorta like "polar bear swimmers"). So, even with all the snow and slush, your swimming and classes at the pool are far better.
tlatrice13, don't feel like you "need" to do anything if your body is trying to tell you to rest. Sometimes after my long run, I have a headache and just don't feel quite right, so I take a nice long rest day. The body must adapt to the demands we make on it.
Laura, thank you for the threadstarters!!! I hope you got a nice dose of inspiration from doing that (I always do). :-)
So, today was the day after my run, but I felt well-rested, so I planned to workout. DH had to work late, so after lil girl & I picked up and dropped off my son to lessons, DH met me at the gym and took lil girl. I got a good upper body workout and then started back to get my son, only to discover it was raining. boo! Ran part of the way, took the bus for part of the way (so I wouldn't get splashed by cars) and then continued running. Since I didn't do the warmup run, it ended only being about 12min today. Not bad.
Keep goin' folks, the weekend is so close I can almost taste it!0 -
Agree tiatrice 13 rest up until headache goes away.
Donna dogs definitely keep you active, i learned that when we dog sat last november.
Sherry I laughed at old people swimming in the sea because the retired fitnessers here run in the extreme cold, snow and icy roads.
Broken record here, toe still sore, will it never heal? ok impatient here....
Woke up to zero degrees out and cold in, we turn heater off at night so went down to 50.0 -
tlatrice will repeat what the others have said - your body lets you know when it needs rest, so you should rest. When you're feeling better you can hit it hard again!
Marla have you had your toe checked out? Seems like this has been going on forever.
Donna what types of activities does Colin enjoy? I need to Google flyball because I don't know much (okay anything) about it.
Sherry it is fun to find threadstarters! Noticed last night you were starting today's so I went to a couple of my favorite FB pages to pull some inspiration from there. My memory is so bad though I hope I didn't repeat any ones that have already been posted. Oh well - a good saying is worth saying twice, right? Nice job getting some running in even in the rain!
I have a trainer workout tonight (legs & abs) and will need to run since I didn't yesterday. My boss ordered in Chinese food for everyone for lunch today so I need to burn off some extra calories anyway!0 -
Laura not better by next week I will.
I was just reading a article about biggest loser show, I happened to catch the final the other night, I haven't watched in years and was shocked the winner looked anorexic. They showed a picture of Julian and other coach who looked shocked and dismayed also.
Thinking this is what you get when you pay people a bunch of money to lose the most.
Lots of comments on the article. She was 260 and went down to 105 and she is 5'5". I am 5'3". And I am skinny at 105 I know because I use to be thin growing up and in my 20's. I am trying to get down to 120-125. Any lower seems unhealthy. I have a few women I know in my book club and gym who are so thin they have to wear many layers to stay warm during a time we would all have at t-shirt on.
What do you guys think?0 -
Marla, I didn't see the show, but I saw some of the fallout from it. JM & Bob(?) definitely looked shocked. Apparently she was a decent weight and quite fit when she left the show to go home for several weeks before the finale. Well apparently in those weeks, she just kept losing and losing, trying to make certain that she'd win (not knowing how far the others would go to win)--goodness only knows what she had to do to lose all that weight in such a short time (and so close to goal--it gets harder then). I'm imagining she cut her calories super low and lost a fair amount of muscle :-(.
Yep, it seems the show needs to be modified. Paying people to lose was a great way to get people going, but now that people see it can be done, they're willing to take it even farther just to win. They could actually make it very, very interesting by basing it on body fat %, down to the healthy range (but too low=disqualification)--and if there's a tie in bf%, they could do some sort of show-down fitness challenge (idk, like planks and rope climbs and running, etc, etc--or like a crossfit type competition or toughmudder or smthg)--now THAT'd make for good TV, and at least FITNESS would be the goal...not just "skinny".
Interesting topic. I'm just glad to see that fitness seems to be catching on as a lifestyle--there's evidence everywhere, The Biggest Loser, MFP, all the gadgets (Basis band, Bodymedia, Fitbit, Nike Fuel, etc, etc), Tough mudders color-me-rad runs, and idk about elsewhere but workout clothes have become standard clothing for most school kids and many adults. What a difference! It's so much better than the deep, dark, depressing days of everyone getting fatter and fatter and not knowing how to undo it.0 -
I left work shortly after my post and went to the doctor. The headache was driving me bonkers. I rarely get headaches and it was almost more annoying than painful. Like, I couldn't focus because all I could think was 'my head hurts'.
She said it sounded like a tension headache and gave me an 800mg ibuprofen. I went home and took a nap all afternoon. I felt SO MUCH better (even though the idea of taking 800mgs of ibuprofen scared me!) I went to Zumba/Fitness Dance after all.0 -
Sherry good idea you should email the show!0

tlatrice after a car accident my doctor had me taking 800mg of ibprofen several times a day for about a week. Obviously you don't want to do that all the time, but that's considered prescription strength. Glad it worked for you & that you went & got checked out.
I saw the photos of the winner and she doesn't look good. She doesn't look healthy. I hope she puts some weight back on now that she's "won."

Glad that it worked for you and that you were able to get to Dance class!0
