ab work in 2T?

Everything I read says ab exercise in pregnancy is bad. Is that really true, and why? I have been way off the wagon as far as tracking and getting proper exercise, so started up on Ripped in 30 - then backed off to 30 day shred when I was too sore to walk for 2 days after ripped in 30 (yikes, I didn't know I was THAT out of shape!) Anyway, I'm 17 weeks and just went ahead and did the 1 minute abs during the work out.
Is is just that you shouldn't do ab work where you have to lie on your back? Because the whole baby being heavy and putting pressure on your arteries or whatever I don't think is much of an issue until later. I lay on my back in bed for a short period each night while reading before bed, not uncomfortable to me.
Is there another reason, or am I good to continue for a while more?

It can be bad in the sense that the baby starts to push the ab muscles out and away... So it's kind of impossible to have good form and a giant bump. Which might lead to different results than you desire. If you don't have a giant bump and you're doing it for one min, I don't see the harm.

It's ok to do ab work; you should just google some safe exercises for expectant women and be sure you are using good form and feeling comfortable.
Regarding being on your back: your uterus can push against a major artery, which can restrict blood and oxygen loss to both you and your baby. A few minutes here and there is ok; if you feel dizzy, stop right away. Talk to your doc if you have more questions or concerns!

I googled some antenatal workouts, and there were some modified abs workouts within one. Can't remember what it was called, but it was by the same woman who trained Heidi Klum in her pregnancy.

I'm 30 weeks now and I don't feel comfortable sleeping on my back unless I have lots of pillows, but at 17 weeks I was fine. At that point I'd still lie on my back and use weights for a short period. Now I'd raise the weights bench, or sit on a gym ball.
