  • I can give you a great running song, Juke Box Hero by Foreigner. I modified it a tad when I was in the Army to sing as a Cadence for running in formation (ie Double Time). The beat of the song is when your left foot his the ground. This is a "running back" song when the unit is tired and cannot keep cadence very well. The Sergent singing the cadence has to bellow it out loud enough so everyone can here it, keep their breathing under control and set the pace. The unit only has to sing out the chorus, "Juke Box Hero". I was called out SOOO many times to give this "non-traditional" cadence. Everyone knows the song, it is very up beat and before you know it they are all singing with you... albet like someone running over a set of bagpipes from 30 to 90 tired soldiers trying to bring it on in ;)

I was walk/running (I turned it into intervals) yesterday and when I hit Mile #2. I was tired and about as far from my house as I was going to be. I turned around and the song came back into my head like a flash. I starting mumbling the words, then sing them softly as I ran. Before I knew it, I had my pace down, my breathing under control, singing at a talking level and RunKeeper said 3 miles. :)

    Standing in the rain
    with his head hung low

    Couldn't get a ticket
it was a sold out show.
Heard the roar of the crowd
    he could picture the scene.
Put his ear to the wall
    then like a distant scream.
    He heard one guitar
    just blew him away

    Saw stars in his eyes
    and the very next day.
Bought a beat up six string in a secondhand store

Didn't know how to play it
    but he knew for sure
    That one guitar
    felt good in his hands.
    Didn't take long to understand.
    Just one guitar
    slung way down low

    Was a one-way ticket
    only one-way to go.
So he started rockin' ain't never gonna stop

    Gotta keep on rockin'
Someday he's gonna make it to the top.

And be a Juke Box Hero got stars in his eyes
    He's a Juke Box Hero.
He took one guitar stars in his eyes
Juke Box Hero he'll come alive tonight.

In a town without a name
    in a heavy downpour

Thought he passed his own shadow
    by the backstage door.
Like a trip through the past
to that day in the rain

And that one guitar made his whole life change.
Now he needs to keep rockin' he just can't stop -
Gotta keep on rockin' that boy has got to stay on top.

And be an Juke Box Hero got stars in his eyes

He's a Juke Box Hero got stars in his eyes.
    Yeah
Juke Box Hero got stars in his eyes
With that one guitar he'll come alive

    Come alive tonight.
    So he started rockin'
    ain't never gonna stop

    Gotta keep on rockin' -
Someday he's gonna make it to the top.

And be a Juke Box Hero got stars in his eyes.
    He's a Juke Box Hero
    Juke Box Hero

Juke Box Hero got stars in his eyes
    stars in his eyes

you need songs with a good beat?

    Any old pop will do?

    I like:

    M.I.A. 'Paper Planes'

Bedoin Soundclash 'when the night feels my song'

Carter the unstoppable sex machine 'Sheriff Fatman'

    Dolly Parton '9 to 5'

    ....now THERE's an eclectic mix!!

    I Don't Want To Be

Good first song to get spin, a run, whatever going.

After that, shorts songs with good beats so you aren't distracted trying to fast forward.
