Hi all, I've done LC before back in 2003/2004 n in 10 months I lost almost 100 lbs.. So I KNOW weight loss can be fast.. I've also been reading other posts n seeing others losing 10+ lbs in 10 days etc.. I also know that the first loss is generally water weight.. I started LC on Mon today is Wed my normal weigh in day..and my scale says I've lost 6 lbs AND that puts me into ONEDERLAND!!! I've been counting cals n excercising for the last 6 months n have only lost 18 lbs in that format.. Being in ONEDERLAND is VERY important to me n been my first big goal to hit for the last 6 mo.. So my concern/fear is that this 6 lb loss n it putting me into ONEDERLAND is not truly real n I'm hesitant to log it or get excited.. Would love some input n even better personal success stories if this has happened to u n u continued to lose ..
Thanks so much :-)

I like to see the same number three days in a row before I record it. Congrats on your loss!

Short answer: No, it's not real.

Longer answer: It's primarily water weight. But, don't be upset about it. Because it's unlikely you'll see a huge jump up back to where you were. After a couple weeks, you'll probably notice a small stall (little or no weight loss) and maybe even a small gain. This will be your body adjusting to things. To have lost 6 pounds in 3 days would be a deficit of 7,000 calories a day -- meaning you had to be burning 8500-10,000 calories a day for each of those days. It's just not reasonable.

It's a jump start. You may never have a weight back where you started, after this. But, it's not 6 pounds of fat. Sorry.

Thanks for the input, it is much appreciated :-)
  • It actually probably is real. you are losing water stored in your body due to carb intake. Now that you are teaching your body to burn fat as fuel, it will stop holding onto the excess carbohydrates and the excess water that ends up stored as a response to the cellular inflammation caused by carbohydrates.
