Hello all my Mfp friends,
I was wondering if you guys exercise everyday, or do you take days off to rest your body? I see a notice posted at the gym to rest a day after working on core strengh routines and was curious about this.
Any advise?

Rest days can be confusing. Some muscle groups can be worked daily (like the abs), while other cannot. Hence the reason why some people work back/bis on one day and chest/tris on another. Cardio is another thing you can do daily, since there are so many ways to change up cardio. You could go out for a jog on one day, hit the pool on another and hit a rowing machine on the third and work your body in completely different ways each time (which is a good thing).
The idea of a total rest or recovery day was not something I had really heard of until the introduction of crossfit and the "extreme" DVD workouts (Insantity, P90X, TapouT XT, etc). Most of these program recommend a complete rest day once a week. I must admit, when I was killing TapouT (or it was killing me), the rest days we really needed.
With C25K I am working the roads every other day, with only light activity on my off days. The program touts to show results if you follow the program and so far I am a believer. If you are using a program that recommends a recovery day, I would take it.0 -
My schedule, is generally M/W/F one week, M/T/Th the next week, then back to M/W/F ... those days include both weights/core and cardio. On the weekends I'm adding a long bike ride (indoors for now), but by and large, when it's a rest day I rest.
Honestly I find that I need that rest day or I'm toast.0 -
Hi there,
I take a rest day when I feel exhausted and burned out from too much exercise. I try to do a walk and a run daily. When I am tired, I spin or just take leisurely walks. I am older and metabolism just doesn't work the way it used to so sitting around as I have discovered the hard way does me no good. Everyone's body and metabolism is different.0 -

Yes I do well more of a rest weekend I work out during the week boxercise classes and the on weekends I give myself a break I would still go for a walk or do 3 hours of housework but its not intense exercise.
After I exercise for about 2 days I actually put on a few pounds but its just water retention so I drink 2 litres of water a day to help plus if I was exercising all the time I would get bored whereas I enjoy it now.0 -
rather than a rest day as such i try not to do the same exercise two days in a row?
So I go for a 4 mile walk on Saturday night, I go to the gym on Sunday , swim on Monday, gym on Tuesday, swim on Wednesday and so on.
If i gym two days in a row,, i find i ache more and have less energy to do my list?
Hope that helps?0
