Where do you walk?

Are you a hiker? Are you a mall window shopper? Do you lap your garden or office? Do you use a treadmill?

I am a mother running around doing school runs and chores mostly. Not many of my miles are just for the fun of it. So I walk the streets of my hometown, which is also extremely hilly, pushing a buggy.

I work at a University which requires me to work in three different buildings on campus, so I spend a lot of my time walking to and from the different buildings to get to the different facilities. After work I like to hit the gym for a daily workout, and if that doesn't happen because of time constraints, there is always my treadmill in the basement. It's also -30 degrees right now, so my outdoor activities are nil in the wintertime.

I typically walk on an elliptical at home (often while catching up on tv shows) and to places nearby like the grocery store and post office. I would like to walk more outside, but don't want to walk alone in some areas.

There is a 27 mile trail system right by my work. I try to get in at least 2-3 miles of walking on that trail on my lunch break but can really only do that when the weather is nice. Other than that, I take the stairs everywhere I go instead of the elevators and my elliptical machine is part of my daily workouts (7 days a week).

Due to the current weather, mostly on the treadmill, which I am not a big fan of. When the snow finally melts I like to walk on a trail at my local state park. It's about 6 miles long around a lake, hilly, and paved for walkers or bikers. I also love to hike anywhere in the woods, on logging trails, hiking trails, or our nearby "rails to trails" path. Can't wait to get some outside walking in!

I walk with a group of friends/neighbours week days and we usually walk about 2 miles around the neighbourhood. On the weekend I tend to use the treadmill.

Right now I walk mainly at the gym on a treadmill. Within the next week I will be doing 3 days on a walking path where I walk 3-5 miles each day.

I started walking laps in my basement a few weeks ago and have now graduated to walking at a park about 3 minutes from my house. The weather keeps putting a wrench into my walking plans because we keep getting snow and temps below 25 degrees (which is about as cold as I can stand it).

I have to admit that I am quite proud of myself. Last year, I could barely finish walking a mile at a moderate pace and currently I am doing 3 miles with me jogging 1/4 mile of that!

This is going to be a challenge. I work 10 hr days at a desk. So I have to walk when I get home. Walk to DVD's unless the weather is nice then I walk outside.

I found reading on my nook while walking on my treadmill passes the time. I need to get a tv out in our garage (where the treadmill is) soon too.

I live in Scottsdale, Arizona and we have an area called the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. It's an area of about 30,000 acres with many trails. It's about a 10 minute drive from my home. There are walking areas near my home, but they are on the flat and I prefer to have more of a challenge. So, I usually hike in the McDowell's. We also have the Superstition Mountains that are less than an hour away, but no cell phone coverage so I won't hike alone there. Hope to get out there a bit in the next few weeks with friends. I'm lucky because I retired early and have lots of time to fit the exercise in. We've had some much needed rain this weekend.

I live in an apartment complex in an co-op.

I have one walk that takes me through the complex, but I can't do it now since it goes through a park and the woods and they have a lot of snow on it at this time. My other walks take me around my complex and back through it.

I mix up my walking between videos, the treadmill and walking outside on my land and surrounding area. I also snowshoe. We have lots of snow in northern Wisconsin and cold weather. Last month I walked outside even when it was 15 below zero, but the last week I have just about had enough of the cold and so I have been doing it all indoors. This coming week I am taking my brother to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and I am sure I will be challenged with being able to walk like usual. I will be walking around the hospital and surrounding areas. It is quite large. I will have to make up a lot of miles once I get back home.

We have a great greenway system here, which I have to drive past to get home from work in the morning. That's my favorite place to log some miles, but during February, I didn't get out there as much as I would have liked b/c of the weather. Despite the ice storm last night (and temps remaining below 20 into tomorrow), it's supposed to be 40s and 50s later this week and I'm willing it to stay there so I can get on the trails more this month!!
