^^^This is awesome!!!
Just bumping today's thread. Not sure yet what I'm going to do today. Normally yoga & long run, but I'm going to a running training seminar this morning so I'll miss yoga, and I'm contemplating doing my gym workout today & saving my run for tomorrow when it's supposed to be marginally warmer.
Donna - which of your options did you decide on for today?
Will check back later to see what everybody's up to.0 -
Good day so far!!! Gave 110% at Cardio kickboxing class! Had an awesome homemade chili made with love by my better half. Going out to dinner tonight will make healthy choices.
Hope everyone has a terrific Saturday!!!,0 -
So I decided to go on the birdwatching hike. Put my technical (aka running) clothing on and then added a layer, jeans and a sweat shirt. Put on my LL Bean shoes and my winter coat shell, gloves, and scarf, and I was set. Unfortunately I went here

rather than here

I got there right at 8 am and the two places aren't right next to each other, so I figured that by the time I got to the right place, the hikers would be gone. I had no idea that there were two of them.
So, went to plan B and drove into Annapolis for the grand re-opening of Charm City Run Annapolis. They were handing out free shoes to test out with a group run. So I removed the shell, jeans, and shoes and put on their running shoes and did the run. I was okay for the first two miles and then just couldn't keep up. I, and the UA rep who was in charge of making sure that everyone got back okay, were the last back from the run. That was frustrating, but I've made myself feel a bit better in that I wasn't really far back. The people just ahead of me only got back a minute or so before I did. Plus, I did so much better than i could have done a year ago!
This is the shoe we were testing out, the Under Armour Apollo

It is not impressive to look at, nor does it feel "comfy and cozy". It is a very lightweight shoe, but with a strong base, some cushioning, but not a lot. It's the shoe itself that feels just a little different. It's like a stretchy mesh on top of the rubber base and it cradles the heel. I did buy a pair (which earned me a free set of socks) and a pair of Brooks trail shoes (40% off because the new model had just come in). I'm planning to try the Apollos again tomorrow. Even if they never become my favorite running shoe, I bet they will be great to use in the rain, in the summer, and maybe without socks as there's not much there to hold water.
Laura, I'm eager to hear about your training session.0 -
Julie, it must be our night off, my DH cooked a delicious turkey breast dinner and a cake (which always ends up being a "birthday cake" for one of my 3yo daughter's plush dolls--tonight for "Missy" the pink meow-meow).
Donna, that sounds like a totally awesome day!! It's nice to read some of the things I could be doing as an "active, fit person" in that area, if I still lived there. I lived inside the beltway for 10 years and in Frederick for a year before we moved here. But, I was far from being an active person then. I cycled on the Capitol Crescent Trail some, but I often would agonize over just WHAT to do on such beautiful Spring Saturdays in the DC area. Sometimes it was just so beautiful there, that I could think of no thing that could live up to the beauty of the day (the sky, the sun, the blossoms, the greeeeeen). Of course, I guess it's still rather cold or gray there now, but Spring is just around the corner.
Laura, have a nice seminar (fill us in on that, I could definitely use some good info/help with running--the problem with being in Greece is that even when I find some cool opportunity for a class/seminar/etc, it's always in Greek so I have to just say "aw shucks" and forget about it. :ohwell: )
So, gotta make this short (toolate, right haha), as I've had a bit of wine tonight. :drinker: Today it was raining (pouring), so I took the bus to the gym and did 1/2 a workout and realized i just wasn't into it. Went home and ate and relaxed and then went back out. This time I walked to the gym and finished the workout, plus another workout, and walked home. All together, did the back/glutes/abs workout plus the chest/shoulders/arms workout. Today I focused on maintenance, not trying to add more weight. It was good, and I got to see what the gym is like on Saturday evening (full of guys).
Have a terrific Saturday! Catch y'all later0 -
Dang, I need to buy some plush toys so I can make them birthday cakes. Brilliant! Hope meow-meow enjoyed her party!
The training seminar was really interesting. It lasted about 2 hours and was really informative. Here's my blog about it if you're interested: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/Laura6887
Here's the view from the window:
We got another wind chill advisory into tomorrow so I'm treadmill running this weekend. Will likely go do tonight. After the seminar I ran to the Whole Foods Coop since I was in the neighborhood, then came home & had lunch & took a nap with my two real-life meow-meows.0
