Did my longest-ever run today (with a small asterisk): 30.34 miles. I'm definitely feeling worn out but I've also definitely felt much worse after much shorter runs.
The asterisk part is that I actually did complete a longer "run" of 38.6 miles when I paced a friend at a 100-mile ultramarathon. However, this was at the end of his race and the pace was considerably slower; we probably walked at least half of the distance, so I'm counting today's run as my longest. Of course, when I do my 50-miler at the end of the month that will beat them both, so it's a moot point.
Awesome stuff! I assume that will be your last long-long run up to you race? Did you do it at your 50-miler pace or quicker?
I have a 50k long run planned for the 15th, hoping that all my pains and niggles clear up before then!0 -
This was supposed to be a 180 mile month. But I am testing the waters on my legs again so will build up slowly for the next week or two. So will aim for another 160. Not exactly ideal training for me at the moment...but I will take what I can get!0

Thanks for all the congrats on the 30-mile run. Unfortunately immediately after the run my shin started hurting so badly that I could barely walk. Long story short, I figured out it was just bruised, took most of the week off, and had my first run (4 on a treadmill) yesterday. Today I ran 3.1 outside and it felt okay, so tomorrow I'm going to try a 10-miler.
I have been out of town this week but just now updated the spreadsheet -- looks like most of us are on track, but tomorrow's long run will probably put lots of folks even closer!

PS: To answer some of your questions, yes, the 30-miler is the longest run I will do before my 50-mile race, but I still have some runs on the calendar that most people would consider very long -- I was supposed to do a 25-miler this weekend but might only do something like 15 on Monday, and I have a 20 miler next week as well. Then the taper begins in earnest!
I did the 30-miler at roughly a 9-minute pace -- considerably faster than race pace because it was on much easier terrain than the actual race will be. My target pace for the race will be something like 12-minute-miles, but in reality I will just respond to the terrain as best as I can. In marathon training I typically run between 8:00 and 8:30 pace, so all this very slow (for me) running is somewhat uncharted territory.0 -
Just finished my first run of the week. I'm feeling fine, but had to work late a few times this week, had an ice storm to deal with, and my son's been sick again. After missing a week of training, though, I dialed my goal back to 100 miles for this month. Since I only made 80 last month, and have only broken 100 once since September, that will still be an accomplishment!0

So I am getting some running in - nothing feels any worse (nor any better) so today I did a slightly longer run - so happy!
I have also registered for a 10km in June. Missing my half this month -

Nice to see progress on the spreadsheet. Two PRs this month, a 5K PR in the 23s, and then a 10K in the low 50s. Caught a cold, and I am not getting better! UGH. Still running since it is upper respiratory, but it is a bit of a challenge. I am lowering my mileage to 125 so my goal doesn't look too unreachable Doing a half this weekend, it is while on a business trip in Portugal! Will run it on jet lag (and for fun), it looks like a beautiful and fun course (over a suspension bridge :glasses: )!!!!0

March 13 -- about 40% of the way through the month. Most folks are still doing great, but I count 13 runners who haven't updated their miles this week. Surely you're not all out with injuries. Make sure you update the sheet! (I've put an updated version in the first post in the thread)
I was injured last week but am back in form this week. I'm pretty sure I won't make my mileage for the month but I should at least be back on my running program. I'm thinking I might be good for 200 rather than 250, but I"m going to keep the original goal in there as a reminder.
Cooriander: Great job this month! Hope your cold doesn't slow you down too much. I'm sooooo jealous of your HM in Portugal! Sounds awesome!0 -
Not out with an injury, Dave, but was sidelined for a few days with a chest cold.
Got back for a light 2+ mile run tonight and felt just fine. Plan to jump back into my planned miles, but will probably not reach my stretch goal this month now.0 -
stupid back injury here. :sad: will attempt a slow mile this evening and see how I get on...0

Ran 5k (well... Pi miles - 3.14 yesterday and then 8.3 this morning for a longish run. Legs feel good after a really light week, cardio stamina was fine and overall energy is about back to normal after the cold.
This will end up as just about a 19 - 20 mile week. Not bad for having a chest cold for a few days, but enough of a hit, that I've adjusted my goal back down from 135 miles to 125 miles for the month.
It will be a bit of a stretch to get there (if I stick to plan for the rest of the month, I'll be at 122.x) so it is still a motivator, but I think it would be bad to have the 135 out there making me tempted to stretch TOO much.

I finally caught the illness that my family's been struggling with all week. If it was just me, I would still run today, but I don't like the idea of stopping every 2 minutes for my son to blow his nose.0 -
I was a bit nervous going into my 50k run. I have been struggling with injuries and haven't been training as I am supposed to. I took the optimistic road and tried to tell myself that at least I had a proper taper, otherwise I would've kept on running except for a 3-day break before.
The run went well. Had a bit of blood sugar problems very early on (tried a new nutrition route, epic fail), but fortunately that sorted itself out. Could've finished faster but my running partner ran out of steam at about 15k to go, so we slowed down considerably. All in all it was good, muscles had some aches and pains but felt like I had enough energy to go a bit further. Which is always a good feeling at the end of a long run.
Funny enough my lingering injury feels better after the long run? Can't figure that one out but will take the good fortune and won't question it too much.... Could be that the rehab is kicking in.0 -
Marikevr, congrats on your 50k -- sounds like you had a solid day...sometimes all it takes is a nice easy long run to shake out an injury.
I'm entering full taper mode preparing for my 50 miler at the end of the month. My injury seems to be sorting itself out as well but I did lose about 50 miles worth of training earlier this month -- looking like I'll be about 35 miles short of my 250-mile goal for the month. I did my last long trail run on Sunday -- 17 miles in the rain. i can definitely say I'm prepared for any conditions!0 -
I'm late, but always intended on trying for 100 this month. . . I don't know if I'll make it or not. . . have a tough run Wed night, that will likely kibosh my quads.
But hey, aren't we all just a little insane?0 -

Heading into the final week of the month! Don't forget, this is an extra-special week with an extra day at the end (aka Dave was too lazy to modify the spreadsheet). Lots of solid performances and some folks already reaching their goals. Unfortunately it looks like I will be about 30 miles short. The taper week means I will only be getting 4-6 miles more before my 50-mile race on Saturday (of course, the taper was planned; the injury earlier this month was not!).

Got my first stroller run in a while done today, but I definitely won't be making my goal this month. Right now, this is my worst month since October, when I only ran once.0

Just completed my goal of 110 miles today, with my Sunday LR. This is the longest running goal I've ever set so I'm feeling pretty happy with myself right now . Thanks Dave for organizing this - it's a huge motivation for me to stick to my schedule so that I can meet these monthly goals!

Well, I came short of finishing the 50-miler. It was super muddy and rainy and I could only manage 50K. Still the farthest I've ever race, and most definitely the toughest race I have ever entered. An amazing experience, and I only wish I had been able to see if I could finish it under dry conditions. Here's the recap:

I am 8 miles short of my goal. It is okay. My foot has been feeling sore so it is better to rest more and worry less about mileage, but I am happy with my progress!0

Dave, congrats on giving it a shot! I can't imagine that distance under those conditions.
I finished my month today with 13.1- it was a small goal of 70 but I feel great that I stayed on track.0 -
Dave, I am so impressed that you were able to do 50 K under those conditions.
I skipped out on running most of last week due to intense skiing, then intense altitude sickness after overdoing it at 11,500 feet (was doing more cross country than downhill and boy did that stink!).
However, made my goal of 75 miles for the month.

Finished with 100 miles for the month... short of the 135 I started out trying to reach, and short of the 125 that was my revised target.
But... I'm still proud of the fact that I had 100 miles in a month where:
1. I took three days off to help my daughter practice for her black belt test (she passed!)
2. I had a chest cold that wiped out 4 other days of running
3. I ended up fighting my first bout of Plantar Fasciitis since I started running (I had several cases of PF before I got active - none in the last 3 years)
100 miles seems like quite an accomplishment against all of that - especially since 101 miles was my highest month ever before January's 125
Now... I need to seriously consider what my goal is for April... I am doing better with the PF... it is healing up pretty well, but I'm trying to determine how much I can keep running and how much recovery time I need to fit in.
I'll probably back off the running a lot - try to get cycling in for cardio in April and hopefully be back and ready to run by May.
(I do have a 10 mile race in April, so it won't be totally off)0 -
