Low Carb Stall.

Going a little bit crazy trying to figure this out..

I started doing low carb, 25 carbs and less per day, for the last three weeks or so. The first two weeks I went from 215 to 205, then I went to 207, then 209, then in 24 hours dropped back down to 205, and today 206.

To make sure there are not secret carbs being snuck in, I have been cooking pretty much everything myself. The one thing that I have a hard time with is drinking enough water through the day. I have been drinking a decent amount of coffee and tea. Especially iced tea.

Thoughts?

This is likely a water storage issue; have your done the test strips to see if have reached Ketosis? Are you using any artificial sweeteners other than splenda? I can't say I have been in your shoes before but I have heard of this happening but like I first stated it is likely water weight and will pass. If you are using artificial sweeteners or other artificial foods it may be that you body is reacting to it.

Only using Splenda, and I also really don't eat artificial foods. I have been using Splenda for ever, also, it is not a new food to my system. The closest I get to artificial foods, is when I am in a hurry and must opt for the drive through, outside of that I am having eggs, meat, salads, seafood (shrimp), things of that nature.

Good to hear it, sounds like decent food choices are being made. As usual we are all different people so no one thing works for all people. I have done Atkin's 3 times in my life all with amazing rewards with the silly exception to every time I went back to my old eating style at the end of the previous 2 times, gained the weight back each time. This time I was doing good and on track but I didn't like all the Atkin's bars and other foods that were being promoted by their web site (they are full of over processed foods and chemicals. I took the plunge to Primal which is all about natural food minimally or unprocessed and have felt great since and it is naturally low-carb. I personally will not go any other way ever again and feel no need to eat Atkin's candy bars.
  • In my life I have started more diets than I can even count. Low carb was one that any time anyone would say anything to me about I would say "Oh, low carb doesn't work for me" Every single time I would do lowcarb I would have a drop, then a gain, and another small gain and I would figure why not eat my pasta and bread if I'm not going to lose anyway and give up.

This time around I did not go low carb to lose weight, I did it for my health which is a whole other story. I am however a scale addict so as I changed my eating I was still weighing often and the numbers were going down, down, then started going back up. For my health I had no choice but to continue low carb. After a few weeks it all leveled out. It has been 5 months and my number still go up now and then, I also find it's when I have more protein than fat and readjust. My health is so much better now, and I do focus more on the weight loss side as long as my blood sugars stay low.

Keep plugging away, those numbers will go back down!
  • I'm also in the same boat!

I started my low carb journey last year in July. In three months I went from 243 to 215 and was elated to say the least, haha. For various reasons, I veered away from low carb for severaly months, but have been successfully back on for 5 weeks now.

This time around I combined my lifestyle with exercising and have seen good results, but the scale didn't seem to be moving. I did some research and found something called "fat fasting." The goal is to eat 1,000-1,200 calories a day and to get between 85% and 90% of those calories from fat. I was surprised how filling it can actually be.

Right now I'm on my fourth day (out of five) and have seen tremendous progress just by how my body looks and my clothes fit. I plan to weigh myself after my final day tomorrow! I highly suggest looking into it - maybe it'll get you that jump start you need. My diary is open if you're interested in checking out what I've been eating.

However, I am still excited to get back to my regular (and delicious) low carb cooking, lol.

Not sure if this is the case for you, but changes in exercising will cause excess water weight. Whether you are just starting, working out harder, or changing your routine, you will have 2-3 weeks of excess water weight. The body hangs on to extra water to protect, repair and build muscle tissue. The scale will be all over the place for a bit. Keep truckin'. :-)
