I'd never heard of Kathrine Switzer until I happened across her story today. I never considered that women weren't *allowed* to run (in marathons) so recently as the late 1960s. Wow. So, I'm just dedicating today's threadstarter to her, because she's pretty awesome.

It should be noted that the man who chased her in the 1967 Boston marathon later went on to be a staunch supporter of female runners.0

^^Hope y'all don't mind the threadjack today. I was fascinated.
^Ironically, I didn't even run today. I went to the gym for a double workout. I'm starting to get a little burnt out and find myself counting the weeks til I take a workout break (will do it in April, when I switch routines--and will also be Spring Break and Greek Easter). So, I actually cheated quite a bit today and skipped the jogging and also lower back, glutes, and abs, which are usually part of the double workout. I will see about adding glutes & lower back with legs tomorrow. Maybe abs too.
Hope everyone has a great Saturday!0 -
I just saw this story maybe 6 months ago - one of the news stations covered it for some reason. Maybe it was the CBS Sunday morning news show, which covers lighter stuff. It was fascinating though to find out that she had to sneak in and someone physically tried to take her number! Times certainly have changed.
I am going to run this afternoon - aiming for 7 or 8 miles. Could not fall asleep last night, then of course was in a dead sleep when my alarm went off. Trying to wake up enough to get myself to yoga this morning. Had to miss it the last 2 weeks and want to get back to it before it becomes a habit to skip it. Supposed to get into the mid 20's above zero. Last Saturday was mid 20's below zero, so it's like a heat wave!
Sherry if you're burnt out you should take a break. Or have a light week. Something so you don't end up hating your workouts. I tend to default to the attitude of "push, push, push" and my trainer keeps reminding me of the importance of backing off sometimes. And so he has me back off, and of course he's right. It's better to take a mini break then come back strong afterward, than to slug through workouts miserable.0 -

Went to nia class today.0 -
Made it to yoga (which felt great) and ran 8 miles this afternoon. It was 27 degrees and sunny. Bit of a wind but compared to what we've been dealing with here it was okay.0
