Obese and Hyperthyroid

I've been obese all of my adult life, in 2007 I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, but in 2011 I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, I've been seeing an endocrinologist ever since for treatment and blood work but for the past year I've noticed my efforts to lose weight has produced little to no results. This comes after dropping 50 lbs since being diagnosed. I've tried switching things up with my diet and exercise throughout the past year but nothing has worked. Are any of you going through or have gone through something similar? If so, what have you done to break through your plateau? What is working for you to lose weight?

I have Hashimoto's. I lost way slower than most MFPers, but I did it by eating at a reasonable deficit. So be patient.

Thank you for the guide...this year my focus has been following a deficit from my calculated TDEE and using IIFYM. I currently weigh in every Saturday, after my workout and the scale is so inconsistent and I don't really notice any difference in my clothes so it's been really frustrating.

Good luck to you. I am struggling with the same thing. I've been at this for years and years with little progress (yes, logging and exercising and exercising some more). I finally went to a holistic doctor and am trying different natural supplements to even out the hormones but I dont know if it will work...only time and patience can tell.

It took me a whole year to lose 20 lb. Do not give up!

Last year I actually gained weight but I admit my diet wasn't too great. This year I am focusing more on a clean diet and I just went an upped my calories because I don't think I'm eating enough especially with my activity level. We shall see how this goes. The struggle is real!

Weight loss takes a whole lot of trial & error to find what works for you.

Eat "clean" (whatever that means to you) 80% of the time. Fit yummy, portion-controlled treats into your calorie goal. Deprivation can lead to bingeing.

That's my plan plus practice patience. We shall see where this leads.
