I would appreciate advice. Basically I have little activity in my life. So I joined a gym to get moving. I find I am still not losing weight unless I spend 90 min at the gym and after that workout, I eat more than usual. So I do not lose weight. I am starting to add free weights, squats, ab work and stretching. I really think I have to work on everything - cutting back on calories and increasing my effort at the gym. So I think I want to go 2x to the gym, breaking up the 90 min so I move more, and keep my metabolism up. And keep adding in heavier weights 2-3x a week. I make darn good choices in my diet, although I think I don't log everything that goes into my mouth. Some days I just feel like a big mess because I am not losing weight It is all good though as I am getting more determined. My mindset is no matter what the scale says or even my blasted FitBit which doesn't give me many calories burned, I just need to keep trying.. The other think I am really at a lost about is that I cannot do "monthly challenges" as I don't have success losing. I want to see 10# loss by May 10th. HELP! even confirmation that what I am doing will work is helpful.

I am in a medical weight loss program and consult weekly with a doctor and a nutritionist is available when I need her. He told me that exercise is great for building muscle and toning, but if you're specifically looking to lose weight, its all about the calories. Not even about the fat or the carbs... even those all boil down to calories. A low calorie diet with the "right kind" of fats can make a world of difference. Maybe you're concentrating too much on exercise. Try being more diligent with a food diary for one week and see if that can give you some insight on where you can improve. I'm sure you make good choices, but even good choices can be high in calories and can hinder weight loss. Even if you're spot on target, maybe you hit a plateau. Try lowering your calorie intake by 200 for a couple weeks and see if that does the trick.

Happy Easter y'all. I wanted to repeat that even though I started on MFP at 135 lbs a couple years ago, and this Feb weighed 152.2 - that I am happier. I have friends here, my family is doing well, and I am stopping the beating up of myself. I am letting go more of family issues that I cannot control and valuing my own health and life more than that! I need to do the right things towards my goals and not worry about or sweat the small stuff any more. And really, it is all small stuff. Yesterday I visited our 80 year old uncle and aunt, who are healthy as can be. They are cattle ranchers and keep busy. OMGosh - I cannot believe how at their age they have such an active lifestyle. Our aunt said she doesn't understand how anyone cannot have desserts. Of course I especially love her for that!!! So I am hearing what I want to hear -- stay active, keep busy, eat a serving of a sweet, not the whole box of chocolates and I will be happy for the rest of my life!!!
