After reading thee 50 mile threads, I am wondering who belongs here? Is running 15-20 miles per week long distance running?
Sounds like not.

I've only been here for a few months... but it seems like most of the traffic here comes from people running half marathons or longer.
I tried to search groups for an active forum for people that preferred shorter distances, and didn't have much luck. Most that I came up with were inactive.
But ask a question if you have one!0 -
I think this is probably a good place for anyone looking to increase their mileages or looking to run long distances eventually.
The people here running marathons and longer are a wealth of information.0 -

I agree with this. And I would go as far as saying anybody who is interested in running (even if haven't ran a mile in their lives before), belongs here. We runners are really excited to have another added into the group. I'm another of those 70 - 90 miles a week runners.0 -
I'd say "long distance running" is relative to the individual. I think you'll find there's a wealth of information and a ton of support in this group, regardless of how many miles you run.
FWIW I tend to average 20-25 miles per week and don't run anything longer than half marathons.0 -
I joined way back before I'd ever run a half marathon, just because I wanted to learn more about running from those who are experienced and give good advice. I have learned a ton in this forum. Long Distance running can mean a 5k or a 10 or half or full or ultra. It's all relative.0

Anybody who runs belongs here. I started this group just finishing a half marathon. I wanted to run farther but hadn't yet. Experienced long distance runners have been so helpful with their suggestions and advice. It is a benefit to all of us no matter how far you run.
The most I ever ran in a week was 34 miles. I want to increase my mileage eventually and I will be asking advice here when I do.0 -

Thanks for starting it. It's very cool.0 -

Yes, thanks again for starting this group. I get the best advice from reading posts from the experienced runners who have joined.0 -
This is a very nice group and I think anyone is welcome :-) I don't post here much but browse though pretty frequently to see what's going on and get some tips. There's a lot of good info here.0

One of the great things about this group is that it does not have any "person above you" threads.0

Distance running is totally relative. I considered myself a distance runner the first time I ran a half marathon. If you are finding useful information and camaraderie here, you belong here0

Well, since races from 800m and up are considered distance races, I say let that be your guide.
You can be an 800m specialist running 80+ miles per week or a first time half marathon running logging 20 miles per week. Both are distance runners.0 -
I got a lot of insight here a year ago when I was plugging away with 10-15 MPW.0

I agree, any endurance run qualifies you for this group. However, I did set up a group specifically for the shorter distance races, focusing primarily on 5Ks:

Feel free to join that group too!0 -
I joined this group when I was training for my first half. I had some very "newbie" questions, and everyone treated me well and answered my questions without making me feel stupid. I only run about 20 miles/week right now, but this group makes me want to run more and go longer and faster.0

No thanks! 5K's hurt too damn bad! LOL0 -

I hear you, but I prefer my pain to be over with in less than 20 minutes!0 -

Thank you for starting the group! From dealing with my injury to great advice to great support, everyone on here is great!0 -
I think classifying a “gateway” miles or race length for “who belongs” here would be misappropriate judging. I’m currently running about 45 miles a week (on top of 100 miles of cycling). I plan to increase my running miles to 70 per week by November (my first planned 50-miler). To say I can’t learn something from someone running 5 or 10ks might be detrimental to my progress. We all should be here to learn from one another.0

Not a day goes by where I am not inspired by the people in this thread.
Because of you all I constantly strive to improve and push myself to the next level.
