Can I reasonably do a C25k in 4 weeks?

.My community is offering a fun run on May 17 and I'm wondering if it's a reasonable goal to work up to the 5K in 4 weeks? All I really want to do is run it without stopping for 3.1 miles. In the past 6-7 years I've been able to run 3 miles without stopping but haven't run much in the last year+. Lately I've been doing interval training with cardio/strength training for about 6 weeks. Oh yeah, I'm 42 and 25 lbs overweight, but have no joint issues.

It depends entirely on your current fitness level. If you can barely walk 30 minutes, then no, you're probably not going to be able to do the program in 4 weeks. If you can run for 5-10 minutes now, there's a pretty good chance you can do it.

I'd say give it a shot, and if you need to walk part of the race, that's perfectly fine. No shame in stopping to walk if you need to.

6 weeks might be a decent base (depends on how far/long you can go now without stopping).

If you can get to where you're running a couple of miles without stopping a week or so before the race, then you can probably complete it as the atmosphere of being with other runners will help your energy level.

If anything, try to avoid starting too fast in the race. I ran my first 5K about a month ago (will be doing first 10K next weekend) and in that race, many runners started very quickly and pulled away from me as I was simply running my usual pace. Halfway through I started overtaking many others who had slowed to a walk and were gasping for air.

The best way to tell is to get out there and see how long you can run for. Then work it out from there. It's possible if you've got good enough starting point. It sounds like you have.
