Dark Chocolate is my new friend

I have been reading for a while about the health benefits of dark chocolate. This article is one example:

http://www.fitday.com/fitness-articles/nutrition/healthy-eating/6-health-benefits-of-dark-chocolate.html

But; all the dark chocolate Ive tried simply didn't taste good. Too bitter and chalky. But I recently tried this bar: Ghirardelli Intense Dark Twilight Delight bar. It is 72% Cacao. It is awesome.

One square is only 6 carbs, 4 grams of sugar, and does not spike my BG. It satisfies my chocolate craving, tastes great and is actually beneficial to consume.

As always; test your own BG to make sure it doesn't spike you as everyone is different; but I highly recommend this in moderation. Note; the package says the serving is three squares; but one square is enough to get the cocoa heath benefits.

I picked up a 90% cacao bar, shared some with my wife. She had one bite and said I could have the rest to myself.
And yes, you have to be careful because they are dense with calories.

I love dark chocolate. I like to keep a bar in the freezer, and break off a small piece to stop cravings, if you have it with a cup of hot tea and let it melt in your mouth, it's amazing

Same here! I'm so pleased that Ghirarelli makes these individually wrapped squares. In addition to the 72% you mention, I also like their "Midnight Reverie" which is 86% cacao, 4g carb and only 1 g sugar.

I just tried the 86% version myself. It is very good as well; and I suppose a bit more nutritious than the 72% version. But I must admit I like the taste of the 72% a bit better. The 86% one is definitely "darker", but still quite good.

Im still amazed that I found chocolate that is healthy to eat, tastes good and that does not spike my BG (very minor spike for me - about 5 points one hour after eating). Now the trick is to keep it to one or two squares a day. Its too good.
