Optional Condiments

I am new to medifast, today is Day 10. I have been trying very hard to stay 100% on plan with the exception of Day 5, which fell on the day of my bridal shower. Today though I realized in horror that I have been using way to many of the optional condiments a day. I was not taking into account that things like pepper and garlic are considered condiments and I don't really understand why they are. Can someone explain this to me a little better? I am having a hard time trying to think of ways to cook food for my Lean Green meal that have flavor to them (my fiance is not doing Medifast but eats the Lean Green meal with me every day) but still fit within the condiment restrictions. The thing I'm having the hardest time with is herbs and spices, not sauces or traditional "condiments".

Are you losing without counting your condiments? If you are, I wouldn't sweat it. (This obviously isn't official Medifast advice. Just telling you what I'd do.) If you notice you're not losing, then you have to be strict, limit yourself to 3 condiments/day, and eat boring food.0

I don't count pepper, garlic, etc as condiments... and honestly, I don't spend a lot of time and effort tracking the tablespoon of mustard or light ranch or BBQ sauce here and there, either. While I understand the concept of limiting condiments, it seems overly restrictive to me. On the other hand, I'm losing weight steadily, and I'd revisit that position if I were stalled.
Keep things in moderation, and if you're losing weight you're good! Eating 100 calories a day of condiments is better for you than getting sick of bland food and quitting the plan

Thank you for responding. I was begining to get discouraged on here...
You both have a very good point. Today marks two weeks for me and I have lost 12 pounds so far. Maybe down the road condiments will slow my weight loss but so far I seem to be doing well. I'm not crazy with the condiments ever, but I will try for now not to freak out if I add some pepper or garlic to my food. I am doing my best to stay away from salt as I know sodium can cause water retention.0 -
Hot Sauce.
I can't imagine MediFast food without it. I now have more flavors of hot sauce in my fridge than I used to have cheese. Dang I miss cheese.
So anyway - as far as optional condiments go - the big thing seems to be carbs. If your condiments add a ton of carbs to your overall intake for the day, that's when you risk getting out of fat burn - or so my health coach tells me0
