Getting discouraged

I recommitted to my band in November. I've lost 31 lbs since. I am now beginning to struggle and it's really getting me down. I am eating what I should, I log my food, I stay within calorie range and nothing is moving. I was doing so good with exercise but this week have totally slacked off.

How do you keep yourself going when the weight won't budge? I have to go back to my surgeon on 5/29 and I really haven't lost a pound since I saw him a month ago. I wanted to lose 15 lbs in 2 months to get down to another level and it's not going to happen at this rate.

Feeling discouraged today

Hang in there. I have hit stalls that lasted for a long time. Everyone is different, but I got through my stalls by upping my protein & lowering my carbs and fat. I also try to ensure I get some form of exercise everyday even if its just cleaning around the house. There have also been situations where upping/lowering my calories by 100 helped get things going again. When I am really stuck, I go to see my nutritionist. She always seems to get me back on track. If there is one thing I've learned is I need a lot of help to achieve my goals, and cannot do it all on my own.

I have had some really long stalls. What broke my last one was I got injured. I was quite literaly in the recliner for 2 days and only got up to go to the bathroom. Everything I ate or drank my husband brought to me and frankly I was in so much pain I wasn't interested in eating. Once I saw my orthopedic surgeon and got the knee drained, I was pain free and able to get around better, but still not really interested in eating much. When I weighed myself after that I had lost 4 pounds that week! So I figured out what I had eaten daily on average (calorie and protein) and adjusted my eating to copy that. Since then, I have been losing consistently again, no not the 4 pounds, just about a pound a week which is what I should be losing. Anyway, go back to when you were losing consistently and do those calories and protein again. That will end your stall.

KDar - remember WLS of all kinds is not a quick fix and the body sometimes needs a jump start.
Recently, while on maintenance, I was so discouraged that I was gaining yet exercising and not eating back calories that I went back to my nutritionist for help. She helped me tweak food changes - more proteins and less carbs. I'm hoping to see changes by next week.
One thing to remember - you can't cheat yourself. If you get discouraged, look back at your food entries and change it up. Drink (more) green tea to boost metabolism, change up some routine in exercising or ask your nutritionist for suggestions. Stalls are very common and waiting them out is hard. But that's why this group exists. Share your issues, get the ideas and put them to use. Good luck. :flowerforyou:

Regardless of what surgery we picked, we will all have stalls. I had a 6 month stall starting about 6 months post-op. However, I had lost the majority of my weight and wasn't really concerned about it.

However, from these forums, and various other websites, as well as my surgical team all say the same thing. Eat protein, protein, protein. I've also noticed that on my best weeks, when I made protein oriented choices, I lose more weight. I have to eat something 150 gm of protein a day for good consistent weight loss.

We've all been there. You will be able to break out of it, you just have to change your routine. If you exercise, switch up what you do. If you've been training hard, maybe do a week of just cardio. I know the routine I'm on I do a month of weight training two days a week, then just do a week of cardio.

Hang in there! It's not a race to get down as fast as you can. Just take it slow and steady. I figured I have a lifetime to live with my RNY surgery.

Thank you for the encouragement everyone. I am trying to get my head back into the right place. I got up this morning at 5 and went to the gym for an hour, it felt good and it's a start. I will take your advice and try changing up some things to see what works best.

    Thanks again!
