Finally got a chance to upload some of my photos, I am having some computer issues and some things take much longer than it should.
A few photo’s of the frozen Lake Superior that I would like to share.
My only spot points was a beer.
First time I ever had a Heineken!0 -

Excellent - I always look forward to your ride report shots - mainly because they're just so different to what we see over here...
I've copied them into the entries thread, and the extra bonus point will appear as if by magic on the next leaderboard build, after the Fleche Wallonne (which I really aught to be getting dressed for and riding at the moment...)0 -
Will cyclenut64 receive a penalty for posting this?My after ride beverage, for some reason when I rotated this photo I couldn't save it.
     :laugh:0 -
"wifebeater penalty clause" was revoked for the Ardennes Week - it's tough enough to get the rides in, without exotic shopping0

Provisional Results for the Eighth race challenge are now in...
Apologies for the "rotated chart" but at MFP's allowable pixel width the numbers were illegible
La Fleche Wallonne
- This amazing mid-week ride from Carl (katozdad) was frankly untouchable - an amazing full imperial century ride 162.5km's and over 500m of ascent in the process. Chapeau Carl.
- Me. 72.2km - less than half the distance covered by Carl. Still, it was a lovely sunny day and a great way to break the week up.
- cyclenut64 with 65.6km - person who actually hit the hills hard enough to get a bonus point for the climbing, and yet another really interesting set of photo's and ride-report. I really do enjoy reading the descriptions of everyones rides - it's almost as much a part of the experience of watching the race itself for me these days!
As I said earlier in the week, I hope you've paced yourself - because we're under way yet again on Sunday for the final section of the Spring Season - the Liege Bastogne Liege, before the Classics Challenge takes its usual summer hiatus while the Grand Tours kick in.
As Always, congratulations to everyone who managed to get out for a ride - Is it just me getting old, or has this year been tougher than last year, riding wise ??
See you all on Sunday morning in Liege for the Rollout.0 -
Again, top job TBY for doing all the admin - Without your efforts, none of these challenges would happen!
Well done to everyone who took part in a tough mid-week ride, especially those stood on the vitual podium!
Chapeau :drinker:As I said earlier in the week, I hope you've paced yourself - because we're under way yet again on Sunday for the final section of the Spring Season - the Liege Bastogne Liege
Talking of the Liege Bastogne Liege... I caught this image of Chris (more meat on a butchers pencil) Froome's legs in the Daily Fail yesterday...Chris Froome is clearly in top-notch condition for the Liege-Bastogne-Liege.
Team Sky took to their offical Twitter to post a picture of his legs in training for 'La Doyenne.'
Along with the message: 'Our man @chrisfroome is looking absolutely ripped ahead of #LBL on Sunday!', the picture sees the Tour de France holder's legs so lean that veins protrude all over.
Froome was only confirmed by a Team Sky spokesman to take part in Sunday's race on Wednesday, after backing out of the Milano-Sanremo.
He will be looking to top his best-ever finish in Liege, when he came 26th three months before winning last year's Tour de France.
Meanwhile, Peter Kennaugh has been named in Team Sky's provisional squad for the Giro d'Italia, which begins in Belfast on May 9.
Skinny powerhouse of a rider! Jealous? Moi? :laugh:0 -
there's something of the "racehorse" about that shot, isn't there...0
-
Zero personality though :laugh:0
-
not sure if I prefer that or someone who's a twatt like Cavendish / Wiggo (when he's had a beer or 17)0

Sorry for all the DNRs, it's baseball and WonderCon season which really cuts into my riding time! Definitely getting out there tomorrow, but... *is* it the last ride for the Spring? The first post says there's the Il Lombardia on 5/14...?0 -

Think composite said he was still nursing the sore knee, pretty sure Fran was either on holiday or packing for it, Carl has a ride on strava that i've grabbed the distance for, but no report yet, but as to the rest...0 -

You'll probably have to stick a deadline on it and cap it off after that mate... Fran's on holiday in Tenerife I think?0 -
DNS for me for last three events. I had big plans, but alas real life came trampling through them.0

Liege Bastogne Liege
- Another close run thing, but this weekends honours go to cyclenut64 with his "Bugline Trail" ride clocking up 110.2km and 819m of ascent. Quite an achievement in the high winds encountered. Well done indeed!
- Only a couple of km's behind with 108.5 km's of yorkshires finest roads (including a fair old chunk of the 2014 TdF Stage 1 if I'm not mistaken) comes cloggsy71 - a fantastic ride Clive, having ridden pretty much all that route in my youth i'm really impressed mate. Well done indeed.
- me. Rounding out the 100+ km rides, I managed to scrape another 104.4km ride together.
Well done to everyone else who got out there and rode - particularly happy to see Carl still out there after his epic ride mid-week.
So - before the Classics Challenge goes into it's "Summer Recess" before returning in October for the final installment "La Foglia Morta"
Well - what can I say... it's still close, with everything to ride for between the top three... It's fair to say the podium has been decided, but as to who's on which step... it's hard to say.
3 points difference means if Alan clocks a higher distance than I do, and finishes in the top three places, he'll win.
Equally, Jonathon needs a clear 13 points over my score, and 10 over Alan - realistically, that's pretty much meaning He'd need to be on the top slot, with me and Alan no better than fourth to get the top slot.
Of course, it's a long time to October, so it's best not to speculate - but it's certainly far from all over!
It's going to seem awfully strange this Friday, not having to think "what do I need to grab from the Shops for this weekends challenge :laugh:0 -
OMG! I made the podium :drinker:... having ridden pretty much all that route in my youth i'm really impressed mate. Well done indeed.
Cheers to TBY for doing the admin (again!) "If you build it, we will come!"
Chapeau to cyclenut64 & TBY for achieving 1st & 3rd respectively & to everyone else who posted rides - Without you guys these challenges wouldn't be as much fun!
Yes TBY, Buttertubs was TOUGH, but enjoyable; I'd have been much better with the 50/34 on the front that the 53/39 that I went with... Lesson learned for next time  I had to do the 'walk of shame' for about 20 yards up one slope; I just didn't have any beans left
My 2nd place has certainly improved my points total, that's for sure!
Again, many thanks one and all - You are a special bunch!0 -
are you sure you mean Special and not "speshul" :laugh:0

Thanks TBY for organizing this challenge, as always you do a superb job. Kudos’s to all who participated, I know that your challenges always motivate me to get out and ride. Loved to hear about everyone’s rides and look at the pictures. Having the spot prizes adds to the challenge, I just have to figure out where I can purchase Belgian beer. I would like to someday take on Buttertubs Pass sounds very challenging (kudos’s to Cloggsy on his last ride). I personally was happy that I was able to get a ride in every week and that the rain wasn't a big factor. I am also pleased that I stood on the podium a few times, big improvement for me over last year. Looking forward to October to see who takes first place, will it be TBY or Harksy?0
-
Amazingly close racing. Well done all. October will be interesting.0

October will be interesting.
Indeed! A few 'competitive souls' will be pulling out the BIG GUNS!
Can't wait to see!0 -

Don't rule out a mid table Joker in the pack having an effect on proceedings too ...however that will depend on how much beer is consumed that weekend!0 -
(sorry - did someone say something... I was getting distracted with the AudaxUK website looking for 600km brevets...)

Okay folks - It's the Grand Finale of the Classics Challenge time - Il Lombardia - or "la classica delle foglie morte" - The Classic of the Falling Leaves.
there's a writeup in the entries thread as usual for anyone who wants a little background information, and for even more there's the official handbook in .pdf format here - http://www.gazzetta.it/Speciali/GiroLombardia/download/Lombardia2014.pdf
As is customary, these "Classics" are about more than just the ride... and with that, "spot prizes" for this one...
Photo Bonuses - 1pt each for "Autumnal Leaves" pictures or "Roadside Church/Chapel"
In Ride Bonus - 1 point for 500m of ascent, 2 points for 1000m, 3 Points for 1500m or above.
Food Bonus - 1 point for picture of... well - anything Italian basically
Recovery Drink Bonus - 1 point (as with Food - so Glass/Bottle of Chianti, Peroni/Moretti Beer, Espresso... you know the drill by now!)0
