Hi all! Happy May!
Well, today is a holiday and the whole family is home (thank goodness, b/c I could use the help). I had wanted a run, but have been dealing with kitten-related issues all day. Not sure how it will all play out.
Will check back in later. Have a good one!0 -
Wow, holidays are my new favorite time to run. Hardly any parked cars, very little traffic--so nice! So I wanted to do my 10 miles, but when I got to the sea at the 5mi mark, I took off my shoe to check a toe that had been hurting and my entire sock was covered in blood. :grumble: One toe had decided to try to saw off it's neighbor again (I swear I trim my toenails, really I do! And I swear my shoes aren't too narrow either. Sometimes the toes just get set in weird and if I don't adjust, this happens. I need to start taping every other one so I won' have to worry about it.) Anyway, that was the easiest 5mi I have ever run and I was actually eager to do more, but didn't want make matters worse with my toes, so I caught the bus home. To be honest, I think my current distance is somewhere between 5mi and 10mi and that 10mi is pushing it a bit, so it's just as well. Next time maybe I should shoot for 7 or 8. I don't think I should have to push myself as hard as I did on that last 10mi run. I mean, I don't think it's necessary to still progress. Anyway, good run on a nice holiday, so I'm happy.
Have a good one. Readya later!0 -
Well I'm feeling a lot better today. I think I figured out why I've been so sluggish lately: I went through my diary and I have been taking in more sodium that usual. So I think I felt crappy because I'm holding on to a bunch of water. So yesterday I made sure to drink a lot more water and by late afternoon, I was already starting to feel better! I was pretty tired in the evening, but did my workout anyway. I pushed myself harder than usual cause it was my last day on level 1 of RI 30, so I'm looking forward to having a new routine tonight!0

Sherry my toenails & running aren't getting along either right now either. I keep my toenails really short, but my shoes (which are a little too big so not overly tight either) somehow press on the tops of my feet when I run so my middle toenail on each foot is purple, super thick, and painful. They were really bad after my long run last weekend so I'm breaking out my new shoes.
At the moment it stopped raining. It's still overcast, and the forecast indicates it might start raining again tonight around the time I get off work (grr), but there's at least a break in the action. Wish I got a long enough lunch break to run 4 miles! Looks like I might be on the treadmill again tonight.
Nice job pushing through Diana! Sodium definitely can throw you off.
I've got a trainer session tonight (legs night) plus a run.0 -
Diana, let us know what you think of level 2 (I can't remember which one it is). JM's workouts are great because you switch levels and mix it up at just the right time when you're starting to get tired of the previous level. Even if you hate it at first, it gets easier eventually. Way to go! You're moving right along and should be very proud!
Laura, my big toe has nearly grown all the black out. I found that it would slide forward on the downhills, so I try not to have too many downhills and to tighten the middle of my laces, to hold my foot in place. idk if that would help you or not, but you might want to experiment with how you tighten your laces, to try to keep your foot from slipping forward. You might have to tighten the top of the laces, maybe the middle or maybe the lower laces, it depends, but if you experiment, you should be able to get it right. Or maybe you need to loosen the bottom part. The answer isn't always obvious, so try different things, like tightening the middle to hold the foot in place, but loosening the bottom to give it width-space. Every foot is different. And maybe the new shoes will help. A little foot pain just seems to get magnified by every step when running, so i hope you can get it sorted out. As for me, thankfully a bandaid did the trick this time. Oh and hey, maybe one good thing about the treadmill is you could always use minimalist or 5finger shoes (no rocks, etc)!0 -
I have problem feet & knees so I use a support shoe. Since I do run races (which are outside) I want to stick with shoes that I can wear consistently. The shoes I'm retiring I've fought with lacing techniques since the beginning and my foot definitely slips in them, so that's interesting. I live in a hilly area, so that could totally be the problem. The new shoes (totally different brand/style) are more secure on my foot and felt really good during my trial run with them Tuesday night on the treadmill, so I'm anxious to try them outside this weekend.
Jason has been wanting me to do a spin workout and I've been resisting. Tonight I was warming up on the spin bike and he told me if I did the spin bike workout with him, I didn't have to run afterward. I was scheduled for 4 miles and that sounded like torture after a leg workout, so I said "Deal! I'll go put my heart rate monitor on!" so fast I was practically out of the room before he had a chance to ask "Are you serious?" So we did a spin workout. My heart rate was high and my legs were shaking. I had done 15 minutes on the bike before we started so we just did 5 minutes at low resistance/higher speed to warm up, then 4 minutes with a fair amount of resistance at 80 rpm (enough resistance that it was difficult at first and felt almost impossible by the end), then some abs, then 3 minutes at 85 rpm on the bike, then some abs, then 2 minutes at 90 rpm on the bike, then abs, and finally 1 minute at 95 rpm. We were doing core & legs today anyway, but the core breaks also helped get my HR back down between intervals. Amazing how high it can spike in just a few minutes! The final 1 minute it was 124 when we started and 186 at the end of the minute.0
