What to do once you reach goal weight?

Hi fellow BFers! So, I'm one pound from goal weight. With breastfeeding, I've lost the baby weight while eating 2200-2400 calories a day. I don't really want to get used to eating more than that, only to have to cut back calories to be able to maintain my weight once I stop breastfeeding. I feel like 2200-2400 is a normal and totally do-able amount to be eating. So I guess I'll plan to keep losing weight until I stop breastfeeding (planning to stop when my daughter is a year, which will be at the end of July). Does this sound reasonable or would you start adding calories back in once goal is reached?

    Congrats on your weight loss!

Goals are a funny thing, especially because weight is only one possible indicator of size/health/whatever. I'd go with how you feel and how happy you are with your appearance as to whether you mess with your intake. Obviously you don't want to lose too much weight, plus when you wean, you don't want to suddenly gain weight, either.

I'd say keep doing what you're doing to see if your weight loss levels off. If you're still losing but don't want to, then add in some more calories and try to be mindful of the fact that you may have to drop those calories back out after you wean.

Thanks! I think I'll do like you said and see where I even out. I'd be thrilled to drop another 5-10 lbs, but not much more than that...I'm thinking that may be where I end up if I stop BFing in the end of July, and like you said, the weight loss may get slower. I really am afraid of upping my calories because I know it will be hard for me to cut back if I get used to eating more again. Cutting calories to maintain weight is less "exciting" than doing it to lose weight, and I'm afraid I won't be motivated to do it!

Remember, adding calories doesn't have to mean eating more. It could be as easy as swapping out half a glass of water for half a glass of fruit juice or swapping your skimmed milk (0%) to semi-skimmed (2%).
