Ran about 6-6.5ish miles today. It was gorgeous down by the beach. I'm supposed to be running a little less and adding more walking for fat burning, but the allure of the beach is too great and once I get there, I'm too far away to walk back, so I have to run it (or most of it) back. Oh well. Anyway, the gorgeous skies gave way to rain clouds and my new running shoes are completely waterlogged at the moment, as are my son's. Oh well.

    Have a great one!

It's back to gloomy and raining today, so I'm happy I got outside in the sunshine for a few hours yesterday while we had some. Trainer session tonight. I usually run Mondays/Wednesdays but am switching that to Tuesdays/Thursdays for the next couple months because those days work better for longer runs as I train for my HM. My brain is telling me to run today (even though my legs are reminding me of those 13 miles I ran yesterday).

Well I went home on Friday and made an attempt to do an ab hold with my feet against something, and it did help my muscles realize what they're supposed to do, but I don't think my body is ready to do an ab hold yet! lol. Nevermind going from ab hold bridge and back. I find that if I try that move, I am frustrated and can BARELY do it twice in the time she gives because I'm concentrating so hard on what I need to do, and I'm definitely not getting a workout in doing that. So I have just resorted to doing the same ab hold that she does in the third circuit.

On Saturday, I went on my elliptical after the workout to get some extra cardio in, and took a sneak peek at level 3....I think I'm going to have nightmares about it now! I'm pretty sure I won't get through the first 5 minutes without taking break, but I'm excited to see the results that I get from it.

I'm hoping I can convince the hubby to get the weight set picked up and moved in this week. I think my biggest problem area is belly fat and from what I've read, doing weight training for 45 minutes, 3 times a week will really help with that.

Weight training has certainly helped me a lot, but according to my trainer it's running that keeps the pounds coming off. I've been weight training 3x a week for 15 months and I love it. You will need to keep up the cardio though if you want to lose belly fat at the same time.

Yes, thanks! I plan on adding weight training 3 times a week but also keeping up with the cardio and planning to add more cardio as I get more fit.

I hired a trainer so I was weight training 3x a week with him, and mostly walking & doing Zumba for cardio to start out with. I also did some Pilates. Three months later I started running. Did Couch to 5K to build up slowly.

Cardio (creating an energy deficit) will take WEIGHT off, but I think that cardio+weight training is what keeps the FAT coming off. Many people maintain a calorie deficit either through cardio or deficit eating alone and lose weight, but it is not the proportion of fat that people who weight train lose. (This is from my own personal experience. Muscle wasting is a bad bad thing.) I REALLY REALLY wish I had come to know this much earlier in life.

Diana, you are not alone. I never figured out that ab hold to bridge or whatever move. But I will tell you that I am super sore today in my abs and obliques and hip flexors from the seated knee tucks I did yesterday, so that might be a good substitute. They look like this, except without the plastered smile:laugh: : Seated-Knee-Tuck.jpg

Fells and I got out and did our 4 mile run today. Between not having time and feeling ill a the end of last week I have done no strength training since my last trainer workout on Tuesday. This will have to change this week!

Excellent distinction! I was thinking that weight training alone won't do it, but absolutely you want to keep the lean muscle mass and lose the fat!
