Fairly new to primal

Hi all
I have been doing the primal diet now for 2 weeks and I am loving it! I am a breastfeeding mum so I try to keep my carbs a bit higher than I probably should but my baby comes first :-)
In the 2 weeks I have gone from 175 on 1st may to 167.4 today. I'm pleased with this. My diary is always open and feel free to scrutinise and offer suggestions as at times I feel like I'm blind and meals are very similar day to day. I have decided this week to cut out chocolate and fruit as much as possible and tighten up on everything. Exercise I plan to start once I have gotten the diet sorted. I'm still playing around with ratios atm (25% carbs, 25% protein and 50% fat is my current goals).
Basically looking to connect and get advice/support and offer any I can give to other primal/paleo ppl.
I hope you are having a chilled and energy filled day!

It sounds to me like you are doing very well. I think as long as you are basing your diet on healthy, unprocessed foods you should just feed your body what it wants while you are breastfeeding. Since you are at 50% fat (don't go lower) things should be fine. Are you eating anything that helps with absorption of fat soluble vitamins? I eat Green Pastures high vitamin butter oil/fermented cod liver oil and also give it to my child.
If you like you can look at my diary; I keep it open. For my particular health challenges I require a very low sugar and starch food plan. I also have some dairy here and there, not because I think it's healthy but because I enjoy it, but it was a big victory when I switched to Bulletproof coffee. I limit fruit very carefully and can easily get derailed when I start having too much.
Nice to meet you, fellow mommy. :flowerforyou:0 -
Thank you for the advice :-) I'm taking an omega 3 supplement and multi vitamin with added iron. I'm not sure what else to take? I'm terrible with thinking of meal ideas and my husband is getting bored x0

Supplements are tricky and require lots of research. For the most part, I would avoid most of them and get as much as you can from food. Quality matters so don't buy the cheapy drugstore stuff, and find very reputable suppliers. The cool thing about the Green pastures fermented cod liver oil is that it is a real food (I eat the gel, not the capsules). There are no omega 3 supplements that I would recommend aside from that (plant omega 3 are not likely beneficial, and fish oil quality matters-best just to eat fatty wild fish). Dr. Mercola has a great multi-vitamin and it helped with my mineral deficiencies. I also take vitamin D3 liquid and K2 (I live in the Arctic so I need lots). You can usually get enough K2 if you eat lots of fermented foods. Get out in the sun (without sunscreen, but use your brain and build up your tolerance over time!) for your D3. Sunlight is GOOD.
Don't be afraid to try different foods and different ways of making the foods you are used to. Lots of Paleo recipes online, but watch the baked goods substitutes as there are lots of those and they aren't beneficial. I make a lot of basic stuff, but usually try a new dish at least once per week. I have issues with accessing ingredients due to where I live but I still figure it out. :happy:0 -
