I know the usuals, (mcdonald's, Bk, etc), but what about a sit down they bring your food to you type of restaurant?

I'm only asking cause I'm supposed to meet a friend for breakfast this morning after work. We'll probably go to Perkins or Bob Evans. Is that considered fast food? Should we cut back on ALL eating out for the next 3 weeks?

    Hello...

I believe you could have a chicken salad as a meal and lemonade for refreshment...

    I hope you that helps...

I don't think of fast food as a sit down meal. Having breakfast at a restaruant (sp) I can take a few minutes more and order something a little healthier. Nah-i think you're good.

Also, my husband works about 50 hours a week so the only time we really go out is for a meal at our fav steakhouse.
Going out for dinner is social as well, so I can still be present, order smarter and enjoy a night off of cooking.

I think all chain restaurants are fast food... Most of their food is frozen. You can have a grilled chicken salad... With Water .. Lemonade have a ton of sugar and is not freshly squeeze... Ask for some lemon n. Squeeze it in your. Water... Dressing for the salad balsamic.. No creamy dressing or cheese ..

I still go to fast food but I only eat salad. The most fast food I have is the popcorn shrimp but I do not drink soda or eat fries. I do not eat beef or pork. Anything REFINED (white rice or pasta) or PROCESSED (anything that is chemically enhanced such as hotdog, artificial sugar, soda) is fast food.

THE FASTEST OR DIRECT WAY TO GET THE FOOD FROM THE PRODUCER (FARM) TO YOUR FORK THE BETTER!!!
Anytime it is touched my human becomes fast food esp if with chemicals.
Any food product with more than 5 ingredients that you can not identify is bad.

Would you consider popcorn in the "chips" catergory?

On both the Daniel's Fast and Daniel's Plan both air popped popcorn is permissible. It is not considered chips. Unless you put so much butter. We make homemade popcorn at home.

    What is Fast Food? LivingStrong.com

Fast foods are characterized as quick, easily accessible and cheap alternatives to home-cooked meals, according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). They also tend to be high in saturated fat, sugar, salt and calories. According to the NIH, many fast food chains have responded to growing public awareness about nutrition by offering some food that is lower in fat and calories than their normal fare.

    Saving Time

Many people are in a hurry, which usually leaves little time to shop for and prepare meals in the same manner as their parents or grandparents might have done. Fast food outlets, a number of which offer drive-through service, fulfill a need for today's often over-scheduled society.

    Improved Nutritional Value

According to the NIH, in an effort to meet the needs of more nutrition-conscience consumers, some fast food restaurants have salad bars, whole grain buns, grilled chicken and lean meats. In addition, a number of fast food restaurants will provide an information sheet on the nutritional content of the food on their menu.

    Health Concerns

Despite the strides by some fast food eateries to offer a healthier menu, the NIH says many fast foods are still cooked with a large amount of oil and butter. In general, fast food restaurants are not inclined to include fruits and vegetables in their menus. The NIH says people with heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes must use caution when eating fast food because it tends to be high in fat, sugar and sodium.

    Fast Food Tips

According to the American Heart Association (AHA), fast food can be good for the heart with a little planning and the willpower to see it through. The AHA recommends skipping "value" meals as well as the extras such as double meat, bacon and french fries. You can improve the nutritional value of a fast food meal by requesting a wheat bun and holding the mayonnaise and sauces.

    Fast Food vs. Homemade

According to the the Mayo Clinic, a fast food burger was compared to a homemade burger by the USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference. The report determined a negligible difference in nutritional value and calories. A 3-1/2 oz. fast food ground beef burger on white bread with ketchup, mustard, onions and pickles was 248 calories.
In comparison, a 4-1/2 oz. homemade lean ground beef burger on a wheat bun with the condiments of your choice was 301 calories. The homemade burger was slightly larger and cost only a few cents less than the fast food variety.

That's a good point. To me, fast food is anything that is processed and pre-packaged.

I just wanted to see what other people thought.

To me 'fast food" specifically is drive-thru. Pre-packaged box food is call pre-packaged.

Also as to the popcorn question up above, popcorn, especially without butter with a little popcorn salt thrown on it is way healthier than chips.

    From the Daniel Plan:

If it was grown on a PLANT :flowerforyou: eat it!
If it was MADE in a PLANT leave it on the shelf.

I know it is hard to follow. May be we can do it little by little.
