Morbid Obesity - Numbers Chart?

Okay, so I've been feeling really stupid/silly lately. I can't seem to find a chart anywhere that tells me the variations of obesity. I know I've seen it before, with all the grades of it, but I can't find it now. Is 40 BMI the cutoff for morbid obesity anymore? I am feeling really stupid, and I'm just wanting to set a new goal... Please help!

    Underweight <19
    Ideal BMI 19-25
    Overweight 25-30
    Obese >30
    Severely Obese >35
    Morbidly Obese >40
    Super Obese >50

I just found this. Which actually puts me right on the Super Obese line. So I actually DO have a goal now.. to get down to Morbidly Obese and so on.

Thank you for posting this, it really might give some of our members goals to get to.

I've copied a version of this into my weight loss spreadsheet, and I've worked it into my goals. I'm 17 pounds away from no longer being morbidly obese. That seems so far away, but I know it's really not, at least not compared with how much weight I have left to lose!

I'm 5'5", 260 which puts me in the Extreme Obese category. I have to lose 1/2 of me to be considered "Normal?" I haven't been "normal" since grade school!!! Guess I need to up my goal another 50 lbs!

I'm not even on the chart... so I am calling myself Super Extraordinarily Mega Obese, or SEMO for short.

Rat, I put strawberries on my salad last night. Hubby picked them off and ate them separately, but I ate them with all the other veggies. YUM!!!!! FABULOUS!!!

    Hi Claudie,

Just remember that BMI isn't perfect, your doctor or dietitian can give you a better idea of whats your healthy weight.

But as someone who also has half a human being to loose, heres to the half of ourselves we will be leaving behind :drinker:

Heather, I agree! Severe doesn't suit you. Let's rename that category Supremely Fabulously Obese.

OOoo saying I just reached seriously fabulous obese from morbidly obese does sound better!

I made a final decision about my end goal the other day, do not remember if I posted about it or not but since it came up here I will mention and you can all just glaze over if you read it before ;) For a long time I got stuck on the number that would take me in my normal range, 145. Because I could not conceive being that I ignored it but it was there. My doc in Jan says he wants me to get under 200. But I want to no longer be obese, however fabulous it is. So I have decided for now on 170. It feel more realistic while being healthier, no more obese, and it gives me 30 lbs to slap me in my face should it creep up again as once I get under 200 I really want to stay there! Maybe at 170 I will feel like pushing on, but I do not feel pressured now.

Good for you Tish! I did that too. I just didn't want to keep seeing how far I still had to go. I wanted to see on my ticker how far I have come and keep adjusting it.

I lik fabulous! While we are at it, can we get rid of the whole obeast label? That's what I think of. Sounds like Oooo-beast. I think I am just fluffy. Fabulous and fluffy.

I am curious though, one of those links said what your body type is. When I get back inside I'll find the link but they go by if you carry your weight in your middle your likelihood of type 2 diabetes etc. If you were over. 5 it goes up. Mine was .63. I carry my weight pretty evenly. I am big from my head to my toes.

I like the UK one better, since I am from there I am going to go with that. I am just Obese with that one, not seriously or severely. lol

Don't forget--BMI is flawed. If you have a large frame, are very muscular, or are apple-shaped (thin arms and legs with large middle), the BMI is NOT an accurate measure. Don't believe me? Google BMI and muscle mass or BMI and large frame. Lots of reliable sources on this.

Thanks everyone... I hadn't been able to check this in a while. *brain fart* I guess I'm frustrated because you would think with almost 90 pounds gone that I would have moved from one category to another, but not yet. Grr... Hope everyone has a great day.
