6 weeks out a little pain

Hi Everyone
I'm six weeks out and still experiencing a little pain on my left side. It's more like soreness that just pain. However, I'm scared to go back to the gym because I'm having trouble bending, twisting and turning. My surgeon says it's healing pain, so I have nothing to worry about. The funny thing is that most people say they are pain-free after 3 weeks. Any thoughts?

I continued to have pain (mine on my right side, probably just individual healing or surgeon variations in procedure) six weeks out. It went away shortly thereafter but it was definitely there. I just kept moderately active (walking) and soon enough the pain subsided and I was able to increase my activity. Good luck to you!

Wow, thanks! I thought I was the only one out there! That's comforting!

I'm not taking any pain medications, though.

My healing was slowed down by having to be on steroids twice in the first 6 weeks post-op. I didn't really begin any exercise until about 8 weeks out, other than swimming as soon as I was cleared by my surgeon to do so. Do you still use a pillow to splint, some of us have to do it longer than others.

I've noticed when I have any pain it's due to gas or am constipated as my body was used to daily BM's and now it has to get used to every 2-3 days. This also makes my stomach hurt if I bend, twist or move a certain way. My surgeon told me to take Miralax every other day to help control this.

    Hi Karen,

Thanks for your story! I take Miralax every other day, too, and I have managed to have bowel movements every day. My pain is not a strong one, and I have noticed that it gets a little worse in the evenings. I use a warm water bottle on top of my belly, and the pain almost goes away. I have also noticed that it is not only under the incisions. It's a twinge, or soreness feeling, that I get here and there. It must be healing pain, as my surgeon said, But I was expecting it would be over now after six weeks. Guess every person is different.
