Chronic Migraines

I have had chronic migraines for the last four years. I've tried just about every prescription medication there is for migraine prevention. If the one I'm on now doesn't do anything, I don't know what I'll do. I have migraines about 15 days out of the month. Right now, they're debilitating. I try not to take anything for them because that can trigger another migraine. I'm still cutting foods out of my diet to see if that helps. So far, it hasn't. I avoid the triggers that I know I have. I guess my last resort, at the moment, is to get in shape and hope that helps. Any suggestions are welcome.

I used to have horrible chronic migraines, and various other types of headaches on a daily basis. It was extremely rare for me NOT to have a headache of some sort, and the migraines hung around for 2 weeks without relief. Maxalt used to work for me once I developed a migraine, but then it stopped working, so I was miserable. I can't tell you how much acupuncture has changed my life. I now very rarely even get a regular headache, and migraines are now so infrequent I still can't believe it's happening. In the beginning, I had a series of regular acupuncture treatments, but now I only go whenever I start to get twinges of any type of headache...usually every 4 or 5 months now. Acupuncture isn't covered by my medical insurance, and is expensive, but it is worth every penny I spend. I would pay three times the amount I pay, just for the relief it's given me. Good luck.

p.s. I had had headaches all of my life...even as a young child. I am now 56 yrs old...and acupuncture is the only thing that ever TRULY helped my headaches.
  • Just wondering if you have seen a Board Certified Headache Specialist? If you look up this information, there are only
about 300 doctors with this specialty.

I have had chronic migraines for many years and it takes a lot of patience to find the right combination of things that will
    help you!

Here are some good websites with a ton of information:

Hi, my name is Jessica and I have been suffering from migraines for 2 years. I even had to take a leave of absence at one point, go on disability because I became bed ridden. I believe that I suffer the same amount of pain some days but I just deal with it and go about my daily life. The most difficult challenge I face is knowing I have household chores, daily tasks, and at least 30 min of exercise every day that needs to get done, but I am not physically able... especially on days I work a 8+ hour work day.
I have tried switching up my diet to trying different medications. Only thing that stands out is I should not eat phosphates and they are most severe around that time of the month.... usually lasting a week to 2 weeks of severe pain.
I am used to having a headache every day.
The doctor told me it is hereditary. My last resort was botox injections. I get 32 around my head, all the places where you would feel pain. This procedure doesn't hurt. Every 3 months I get it done. I have definitely felt a significant difference.
I have tried acupuncture, and I believe it cured my back pain but as for migraines I got a little scared because I would not be able to really see for about 3 days...every time I went,. but the pain was nearly gone.
Im just really looking for a support group or someone who can relate.
I had a 20 day streak where I was feeling great, eating great and putting in a good workout every day.... then BAM... back to feeling crappy and having to fake it til I make it at work.
I have gained weight from being bed ridden and have not been able to get the weight off.
I'm feeling really discouraged and a lil depressed.

I'm so sorry that you are feeling poorly. People are always surprised to hear that I have a migraine and am still at work. They don't know that work is the only thing that will happen in my life most days. It can be very trying. I hope you find some relief.
