I've been feeling sick since yesterday.... Not sure what but the only thing I can come up with is that I'll be getting my periods very soon. Wanted to check in quickly anyway though.
I did get my workout done in the morning and am definitely happier with TDEE at the moment.
I also have some baking/cooking related questions to the US-folks
I already found rather different conversions to tell me how much exactly a 'cup' is but I guess around 230 ml so that's what I'll work with. What I don't really get is how I'm supposed to measure things like butter and peanut butter in a cup!? Just stuff it in? How tightly should the cup be packed? And second, do I understand it correctly that 'Cool Whip' is basically frozen whipped cream? And finally, what is 'white bread flour', just regular white flour?
Sorry for being so uncommunicative today and I hope you're all doing great!!0 -
All right! I just started my new workout program. I met with a new trainer last week, and she uses a web-based system where all the exercises that she put together for me based on my goals, etc., are there with videos, a tracking system, and she can see what I am doing after each session. I will see how this works for me -- the workout itself is good (and challenging!) and I have a 6-day schedule with 3 different kinds of day. Today was strength and balance day, tomorrow is cardio intervals and stretching. Feels good!
Ines -- I feel your cooking issues! In Canada we somehow use all the systems mixed up, so I hope I can help you. A cup is 250 ml and any liquid (or pasty stuff like peanut butter) just gets put in the measuring cup flat to the top (use a knife to level it off). White flour (bread flour) is hard wheat (high protein) flour, as opposed to pastry flour (soft wheat) that has less gluten and is better for cakes and pastry. Cool whip is an artificial whipped cream -- I don't know how anyone can stand the stuff!!!!
I hope you feel better soon.
Have a beautiful Monday, everyone.0 -
I just realized I never checked in yesterday.
The plan was to go to the gym for cross-training and to mow my lawn. I slept until 7:30 (which is late for me), did some laundry, hung it on the line, then realized how tired I was so I went back to bed and slept for 2 more hours. When I got up I felt totally wiped out. My workout schedule has been messed up the past few weeks and I haven't taken a total rest day since May 21, so I decided my body was telling me it was time for one. Ended up taking a second 2 hour nap that afternoon. I wasn't sick, just wiped out. I didn't even mow the lawn because I have a push mower & that takes about an hour to do.
Sherry is your HRM a Garmin? Mine has been really weird lately with the calorie burn. Like on a 3 mile run it will tell me I burned 114 in the first mile, 116 in the second mile, and then 13 in the third mile. I'm going to go ahead and say I burned more than 13 calories running a mile. Or in a 10 mile run 8 of them will look right but 2 are super low.
Jugar do you meet with the trainer in person at all, or is it all online? One of my co-workers was looking into an online-only version where it included workouts, a nutritional plan, etc. for a set number of weeks. Not sure if she ever went forward with it.
Ines I hope you're feeling better! Sounds like Jugar covered your cooking questions. For peanut butter in a cup I would fill it completely but not pack it in, and like Jugar said level it off with a knife. Very few (if any) labels in the US give ml - just cups, ounces or grams.0 -
Hi everyone! Don't think I posted yesterday, oops. I am such a creature of habit and Sundays are a bit off schedule around here so weekends it often seems to be hit or miss.
I almost took the day off yesterday, I had planned to go and get the rest of the mulch I needed to finish my flower beds. Which I did....and picked up some annuals for my pots. Had some time leftover before supper so I decided to go for a 5K run. Was glad I did, it went well.
Today, went for an 8Km run, pretty happy because I wanted to get more miles in and it seems that I am. I am hoping to do a 10K sometime this week, later on.
Jugar - good luck with your new workout program, it sounds great.
Ines - hope you're feeling better...and I think Jugar summed it all up well for the measurements etc!
Laura - yes, I would say that you needed a rest day, glad that you took one!0 -
Hi all!
ines, hope you are feeling better.
jugar, nice system with your trainer.
laura, yes the Vivofit came bundled with Garmin hrm and their program is a MESS right now (I assume it wasn't always this "off"?) The first time I used it was for about a 1 hour run and 38minute walk. It told me the cals for the 1hr run were LESS than the 38min walk (like 1200 for walk vs 780 for run)! This weekend I walked to the playground and used the hrm to tell me # of steps (if I use the hrm, it makes an "activity", so I can see those steps from my step-counter separated out), and I did the same on the way back, but then we stopped for food halfway so I shut off the "activity". When I looked at them...it showed more cals burned for the 1/2way back activity than for the whole walk there (similar time & hr, etc). Today I got a really low cal-count for my "activity", but very high cals in my Vivofit daily "active calories" even though I was a total slug at home--so the cals HAD to have all come from my "activity", but they just weren't portioned over to it for some reason (like to the tune of 500 cals).
Today, I walked 1/2hr and then started running and ran to the beach , then walked awhile and then ran a bit more. Total 2 hours.0 -
By the way, "Hi" Maureen too! I think you posted while I was posting (it takes me awhile to post...with the kids & plating dinner, etc).
Laura, if you are on Garmin Connect, you can look me up to connect. Same user name. I wish they'd work things out, b/c there are some obvious mistakes in the programming. Regardless, I'm getting pretty excited to get myself one of their gps watches (I want to get it for myself on my 2yr running anniversary next April--waiting so long b/c I've got my eye on the expensive one--the 620). I never go the same way twice it seems and I just go where my feet lead me, so a gps watch would really REALLY help me to keep track of distance, pace, etc. I've tried mapping it online, but it takes forever and I always take different streets, etc.0 -
Hello, bookclub day finishing book and baking pumpkin cream cheese swirl cake. Sounds fattening but actually isn't bad for calories and has no frosting.
So going to swim later before club only.
Ines...like they said about measuring, but also a cube of butter is a half a cup.
Hope you all have a great day...0 -
Hi all, I'm back from Ontario.
I went back and read all the days that I missed and you all are doing great!
I got some running in while I was at the dog show, but a lot more walking. I was over 20k steps all the days that I was there without making any real effort to walk anywhere, just getting to where I need to go. The dogs did well. Fells qualified in all 6 rally trials that he was in and took first place in all but one. Colin qualified in 5 of the 6 rally trials, but for some reason know only to him, he left the rally ring and went running around the building on Saturday afternoon. He did win some prizes in conformation, too. We enjoyed it, but are glad to be home! Next trip is Houston, TX!
Today I finished the drive home and then rested most of the day. Finally got myself out at 7 pm to run 4 miles and get my exercise. Tomorrow back to work and real life.0 -
Sherry I sent you a request on Garmin Connect.
I contacted Garmin and they had me reset my watch (I have the Forerunner 210). It didn't completely solve the problem, but it helped. It used to work great so I'm not sure what is going on. My HR is consistent (or where it should be) so the monitor itself isn't the problem.0
