Morning all, Wed morn 8 a.m.here in UK!
Well the "blip" last week after starting heavier weight training proved to be just that, took 4 or 5 days but then it went and a bit more over the weekend so another pound off. Does any body else find that their weight stays the same for 4 or 5 days then goes down a pound or so with a "whooosh"?
Last time I was trying to lose weight it was using WW and I found that it was up and down throughout the week. Now, although I use MFP sometimes just to check my macros, I find I don't get the fluctuations - it might be that I am eating more consistently the same foods and have virtually cut out bread, cereals, potatoes pasta and rice. I still have the last three once or twice a week, but bread and cereal I've not had since the end of January. They never made me feel ill as such, but I've not really missed them, although I occasionally fancy a piece of toast! Only the very occasional glass of wine as well, which I think also causes big fluctuations!
I'm not really calorie counting, but eating lots of meat fish etc, avocados, full fat yogurt, loads of veg and berries, some other fruit, and nuts. I even have peanut butter almost daily. I've never eaten it before - it is very addictive- have to stop myself putting my finger in the pot! My little weakness is still chocolate and I have been treating myself to 2 squares (20g) of 85% or 90% dark chocolate daily.
All this is because I joined a 12 week "total loser" competition at my gym, and followed their nutrition guidelines at the start . I felt good on it and have decided to follow it indefinitely. I'm hoping that it is becoming more a way of life now. As long as I can stay off the wine I think I'll do OK.
Anyway, enough of my ramblings - hope you all have the results you want this week.

Hi everyone.....hope all are well this lovely Wednesday morning!
I had quite good week......apart from a blip over the weekend I ate well the result being I have stayed the same weight....125 pounds which I am very happy about.
Jen, I find that wine is the main saboteur of my efforts.....one glass at the weekend is ok...but if I have more the weight goes up, not just the wasted calories of the wine but because I tent to eat more too...have a dessert for example. It certainly cause my weight to fluctuate.....looked like I had put on 2 pounds overnight...... the downside of weighing myself every day I think.......but that is a habit I find hard to break.
Anyway happy here and ready to go with extra exercise this coming week......
Hope you are all happy bunnies with your check in today

Jen: I, too, usually sit at one place on the scale and then about once a week, I seem to lose 1 to 1.5 pounds and then maybe a .5 the next day. Then, I stay the same for a week.
I finally lost the 6.5 pounds of water weight that I suddenly put on last week plus I lost an additional 1.5 so that put me at 185.5! That is a 35 BMI. Once I lose that additional .5, I will no longer qualify for the bariatric surgery even as a heart patient. I have gone from my high of 45 BMI to now 35 BMI.
I am now convinced that the water weight was to heal the muscles and move the glycogen due to upping miles and adding resistance bands. (I keep them at work and didn't get to do them yesterday. I was just too busy even to really have a quiet lunch.)
I walked a total of 55 miles last week; 22 of those were logged as cardio workout miles.
I actually have added a daily alcoholic beverage to my food. It is to challenge myself to do the 4 things that help you live healthier and longer: 1. Don't Smoke. 2. Eat 5 servings of fruits or veggies. 3. Exercise 30 minutes 5 times a week. 4. Drink one alcoholic beverage a day. So far, it didn't hurt in weight loss, but I haven't done it long. (Admittedly, last night I traded the drink for a brownie -- when it was over, I would have preferred the drink!)
Hope everyone has a great week!0 -
Good result Charlie - onwards and downwards!!
I wanted to wean myself off the daily wine/alcohol, it was taking over and becoming a crutch - not a very good one. I feel so much better for cutting it out. Trouble now is that my tolerance for it is at an all time low, so one glass and I'm anybody's so to speak!!:laugh:0 -
I wish I had some good news to report but unfortunately it isn't so. This morning my scale (I hate that think) showed a gain of 2 lbs.! Went to my exercise group yesterday & then three of us went for lunch and it was pasta with salad and a dinner roll and carrot cake and I ate it all. I am thinking some of the weight may be from sodium but I know I ate a lot as well. I'm off today with a group of friends for lunch at a friends house; so will have to eat what she serves. Then we are all off to the theater. There will be no exercise group tomorrow because there is a provincial election and our facility is being used as a polling station. I'm not giving up. I am going to keep on keeping on and hopefully I'll get there. Congratulations to all on your success; keep it up and best of luck for the coming week. Alex :flowerforyou:0

Wednesday already! I am steady at 121, but I don't have one of those cool scales with decimals - just an old rotary scale, so maybe I lost a half a pound and it doesn't show yet (those rose coloured glasses are firmly in place). The exercise sure feels great, and I'm looking forward to bigger changes, however slow they may be. I'm only 5'1" so there are still a few to lose, but it is sure better than the 154 I was at a couple of years ago!
Jen, I'm hoping to get to where you are with the alcohol -- it is still too easy to use up valuable calories on my delicious home brewed beer or a glass or two of wine. I grew up in a brewing family, and carry on the tradition (silly me), but as long as I'm not gaining, I'm not complaining!
Keep up the great work, everyone. Alex - I'm sure your sad news is temporary, unless the election puts you into a depression! Provincial politics can be a real pain... (especially here in Quebec!). Charlie -- I think you're doing great, and I have to agree that a brownie is not an improvement over a nice glass of wine. 55 miles more than makes up for it, I'm sure :drinker:0 -
It has really been an extreme emotional week for me (myself and 70,000 others or more) - shock, fear, disbelief, anger, relief, pride, then utter grief and sorrow. I've been wrapped up in all these emotions since last Wednesday evening, staying pretty much to myself, only mentioning what I was going on to my friends here on MFP and I thank them for their support. Yesterday started off well, then I was overcome with the tragedy and can't even remember what I ate, etc - total emotional mess. Today I'm going to take the advice of a Spirit Advisor for one of the fallen officers " Life is temporary so focus on the now. Be connected to someone other than yourself. Focus on what is, not what if. Stop trying to recapture yesterday as you waste time on today",
So I'm focusing on the now - I was able to go down a pound - I have a great support system and friends - I have a lovely day ahead of me.
Thanks so much for letting me get my feelings out - this may not be the right forum for this but I did it anyway.

Good Day Everyone: hope this finds you all well, and patting yourself on the back for checking in: with good news, Jen congrats on the loss; happy news, Jean: maintaining and enjoying life; and Alex: a little disappointed but moving ahead for another try!
Alex: good luck with your theatre outing and perhaps you may wish to focus on a strategy with your exercise group as they seem to enjoy the workout but also the reward of yummy food afterwards. I have a friend who loves to eat (don't we all!), and now when I meet her for lunch, I indicate I have special plans for dinner and that is why I am only having a salad or 1/2 a sandwich. I am still working very hard mentally to say I am with her for the company not the food. It is very hard to break the habit of food and good company. You will do this I know :flowerforyou:
I lost 1 pound this week for a total of 19 pounds. My rational side is very pleased as my first day with MFP was March 11 so this is my 3 month anniversary (no cake pls :frown: ). So in the 13 weeks I have averaged a loss of about 1.4 pounds a week and I have been eating quite healthy. The emotional side of me still has that rascal little voice saying ONLY 19 pounds in ALL that time, it should have been 40 pounds at least  . Throw a bucket of cold water on that rascal. Yep, wine is a trigger for me also, it was not that I was drinking a lot and I agree with Jen and Jean, that it just leads to another glass and then a lovely dessert and then oh yes, of course I will have a Baileys with my coffee and lots of cream!
Amazingly, your happy and resident Sloth is continuing to get out for some walks so I am quietly pleased about that! It is raining quite heavily this morning and that is a good thing for our gardens and the weeds! Haven't done much gardening this spring and I am embarrassed for my front garden in particular as it really needs some serious weeding and I still haven't planted any annuals :blushing: , too busy with the Moms! Maybe later this week.
This week I am going to try and introduce a more interesting dinner than the usual plain chicken or fish and see if I can successfully control my portion size, I have a asparagus pasta that I love so maybe this is what I might try.
Have a great week everyone, and remember we don't need to be perfect but hopefully show some improvement in mental thoughts or food selection. Cheers, Marian0 -
Jugar and Holly: I suspect we were all typing at the same time!
Jugar: very pleased to hear you are getting back in a routine and so enjoying the exercise! Yep, I have an old, old digital scale and it also only calculates in pound increments, so we don't see those fractional losses! - or gains! I wondered if I should get a new one and then say, nope, as I am really working hard on not letting that scale rule my happiness! Some days I win, but other days not so much! :noway:
Holly, the citizens of Moncton have been through so much and yesterday's service for the 3 fallen RCMP officers was so emotionally draining! Yes, listen to the wise words of the Spiritual Adviser, they are so true. Have a good week and take care of yourself!
Charlie: You continue to inspire me and also amaze me with your analytical abilities! Your progress to date is wonderful to see and your determination through that recent confusing weight gain is to be congratulated! Cheers0 -
I'm AFS (away from scale) this week, so no formal weigh-in for me. Everyone is doing so well - losing, increasing activity, handling stress and challenges. Congrats to everyone!
I purposely packed snug jeans for this trip (imagine diagram of 'muffin top' here), and am happy to say that I'm still wearing them - even after a round in Mom's HOT dryer  Not sure what the scale will tell me when I get back home, but whatever it is, it is. I tried to pay attention to what went in my mouth, but know not everything got logged; honestly, it was important to me this week but not my top priority.
Off to work on another week - great job group!:flowerforyou:

Happy Wednesday to all.
It is beautiful sunny, breezy morning here on the island. What! I no sooner wrote that and a cloud covered the sun. :ohwell:
I have had a challenging week on the health front mostly due to bad sleep. Or more sleeping at the wrong time. On Monday I checked my weekly calorie average and thought, "way too low" so ate a lot more and went over. I think that helped me feel better yesterday...still I lost too much weight. (Don't @#$%&! me pls ) 3.6 pounds. That does make up for last week's no loss. My aim this week is to stay closer to my daily goal. Even on MFP I can still fluctuate up to 3 pounds a day but I decided to record whatever the scales say on one day per week.
Yesterday turned out to be one of my best days in a while so I got out and tried to get the muscles working again. They wanted to stay in bed.
I am unfortunately in the same camp as Jen, Jean and Marian on the wine issue. Even in my 20’s when I was in WW, I found the one glass of wine a week allowed affected my weight loss and it still does. I choose to continue to have wine when I am out but I'm a cheap drunk.
Thanks Jen for starting this week off with a lot of great ideas for discussion.
Alex....don't give up. It's a long road and not all straight. Darn it!
Congratulations to all of you who did lose weight. Marian....get rid of that little voice. That is a nice steady weight loss. Our skin needs time to catch up.
Thank you Holly for sharing your feelings this week. I am sorry it was such a difficult time but is a great example that we can continue on to our goals even through stress.
Have a wonderful week everyone.

Sheeee's back!
I've really been out of the loop for the last couple of months, although I've posted updates on my home page every day, and photos of our 6 week long trip on Facebook, daily.
Internet was iffy in some places, and time was limited, so this group was not on the agenda, but always in my thoughts. Hope you are all doing well in your lives and your health and dieting progress.
I was amazed when I returned from that long trip, and found that I'd LOST a pound. We pretty much ate what we wanted, but if we had a big breakfast, we'd just have soup and a roll for lunch. We always had fruit with us, and often skipped dinner and had fruit, tea and a snack bar. Guess that these habits become ingrained after a while.
Wishing you all a wonderful summer!0 -
Hi Everyone,
Loved all that you shared. Congratulations on your successes, losses and surviving your challenges.
Even if we don't lose on a Wednesday every week, all is not lost. We are always learning based on our choices. The loss could be tomorrow or the next day. Keep doing the right thing and the loss will happen.
Holly, you've been on an emotional roller coaster. Your distress is very understandable and considering all of that, you are doing very well. Take deep breaths, pray and believe what that Spiritual advisor recommended whom was so well spoken.
About the wine, I never found a weight difference from a glass or two of wine (unless it was very sweet.) However, more than that can incite my appetite and lead me to make bad food choices and overeat at the same time.
Practice makes perfect, got to find the right balance, haha. Actually, when I find I'm drinking out of boredom, I stop drinking.
Continued success to all for this week.

I have one advantage about any alcohol. I love the taste, love feeling a little relaxed but hate even a buzz. So even if it is a big celebration, I never have more than two. At 3 I might get a buzz. I never take pain killers for the same reason.0

Checking in for June 4th -10th:
Major wins for the past week:
-- Made it out of the house by 6am for 5 out of 7 days
-- Biked for a total of 49.9 miles
-- Floated the Salt River on an inner tube for 4-hours!
-- Started stripping the grapefruit and orange tree of this year's crop using a 12-foot ladder
--Talk about an upper body workout!
-- Under carb goal every day
Challenges for the coming week:
-- Continue to reduce fat consumed (still over 3 out of last 7 days)
-- Lose this pound that has been coming and going all week.
-- Not let the heat mentally beat me down :glasses:
Having lost the weight as well as gotten physically stronger gave me the confidence to float the Salt River with a friend this week. I was able to pull myself out of the river and onto the inner tube when I couldn't even touch bottom -- now there was NO style and grace but I made it! I'll be float the river again with the 16-year old Grandson later this summer and that is one heck of a NSV for me.
Good job everyone and have a great week. :flowerforyou:0 -
Floating down the river is fabulous! What a buzz!

It looks like we are all having our ups and downs this week.
Wooken: I really envy you your ambition and energy. I wish you could send some my way.
With the grandkids here, it's nearly impossible to do anything other than keep them supplied with food--they seem to love my tuna salad and egg salad. Also, the 7 year old needs to be entertained ALL the time or she's bored. I put my foot down this afternoon. The 12 and 10 year old boys seem pretty self sufficient as long as you keep the 12 year old fed (continuously, LOL) he's fine. The kids go to the other grandparents on Friday and then starts what could turn out to be a very active weekend with adult activities.
As a result there has been little exercise and food calories have been up and down. The scale has gone up a pound, but that is within the 2lbs up/down I have set for myself. So I that means I'm doing ok.0 -
It is still Wed here in Hawaii. I had company this past weekend. We ate 2 meals a day out, went sightseeing, walked 4 miles on the crater for 2 hours. And I can say that for me, I am looking for balance - not all diet but work and play, that is what I want. I lost 1/2 lb and have not yet started up my routine exercise everyday. I struggle still with the heat, but I definitely am more active than I was this past winter.
I am highly opinionated about alcohol. You don't need it, it is sugar calories. I like a drink once in awhile, but it is like enjoying a brownie, or chocolate. I just don't think it is a food group, so don't need it. Of course, not in a fanatical way, as this afternoon I poured a Kahlua over ice before dinner. It might be another month before I have another drink. I just don't care about it.
I am going to be losing weight any day now...I bought my food scale and started weighing my food. I have my bike and total gym with swimming to do for activities. Just got to get a move on.
I am staying positive as in I positively KNOW I want to lose weight and will do what it takes. Just not all in 24 hrs. It will take some time to show that I mean what I say as I have been here nearly 3 yrs on MFP and not lost weight! Now is the time. I will show you all that I mean it as a lifestyle change for me.
So Have Fun, keep doing the right thing! CHEERS! :drinker:0 -
I forgot to weight in yesterday - but did this morning. I stayed the same, which I am happy with this week. We were traveling and if I can maintain while traveling I am a happy camper. This week, I hope to drop a pound or two, but we will be traveling again for 3 days. Really going to try to focus, but we will see. Luckily my husband has jumped on the band wagon with me, so maybe between the two of us we can maintain0

Great to read everyone's comments. I figure if you log in and are accountable , we are winners. I stuck to my plan for the week logging in, 1 large salad daily and 45 minutes of exercise . I survived days of 3 digit temps...I did not weigh in - will do it next week at medical appt.
Good luck to all for the week ahead.:flowerforyou:0
