Hello,
I am curious to see how many of you have seen a dietician or nutritionist not only for weight loss but to feel better as well. This is something I am thinking of doing only if it's not worth it I would rather not waste my time.
Thanks so much!

My endocrinologist said to eat anything I want—in moderation.
It's next to impossible to get a referral at my health plan for a dietician or nutritionist. So I just did my own thing. I'm less hungry when I use MFP's protein & fiber goals as minimums. I eat "healthy" 80% of the time, and fit yummy, portion-controlled treats into my calorie goal.
Get a digital food scale, and weigh everything you eat—even packaged foods. It's quite a wake up call.0 -
If you do see a nutritionist make sure it is someone with a background or additional education concerning the thyroid. The first nutritionist I saw recommended a few soy based products even though I told her I was hypothyroid and it is common knowledge of no soy products or goitrogens for thyroid patients!
I asked at my Dr's office and they had recommendations of specialists that previous clients had worked with, one nutritionist even had hypothyroid herself and I found that very helpful!
A few weeks back I saw a nutritionist and it seems very much like an elimination diet to see what causes inflammation in your body.
Gluten, caffeine and processed foods were eliminated right away. It is a big commitment because it is a minimum of 30 days with no gluten to even begin to see positive results. It is not just eliminating bread because gluten is in just about every condiment and sauce! I would like to attempt this but need to get to the end of July before I can such a huge overhaul in my diet!0 -
A thing I forgot to mention...my nutritionist recommended adding hemp protein. This was to increase my protein a bit and also add a good source of fiber and omega 3's. Not sure if it is all in my head or not but I think I really feel better on the days I incorporate this! Usually I add it in early in the day because it is quick and simple! I do think hemp is an acquired taste tho, little gritty and sort of an earthly flavor. Took me a few days to adjust but now it doesn't bother me at all!0
