Hypo Meals + Macros

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone who has been successful losing weight with hypothyroidism could share what they eat for breakfast and lunch? Also, what macros (protein/carbs/fat) are you targeting?

If anyone has an open diary that would be helpful too.

Thank you!

    Hi there,

My macros are set to 35% protein, 35% carbs, 30% fat. I try to keep my protein and carbs approximately even - I have read a number of posts on MFP and can speak from personal experience that many hypo folks have difficulty regulating blood sugar correctly, or are hit particularly hard by carb crashes (they make me tired and ravenous).

I don't watch my fat intake at all. I am at maintenance though, and I don't know if that would have helped me when I lost 60-ish pounds about 9 years ago (through Weight Watchers/Starvation). Maybe someone else can offer some advice there.

Will send you a friend request so you can see my diary - hope that helps.

My diary is public. I use MFP's default settings, and treat the protein & fiber goals as minimums. I ignore fat & carbs (including sugar).

My endocrinologist told me to eat whatever I like.

My endo/pcp suggested a low carb approach. By that I mean that he wanted me to cut out all processed stuff - sugar, white flour, etc. When I follow it, I lose weight. That being said - I also have Hashi's so I try to stay away from gluten too. I got really burned out and quit MFP and just said to hell with it, I am gonna eat what I want but still try to stay gluten free. Yeah, that didn't work. I gained back the 35lbs I lost and then some. For breakfast I eat eggs, bacon, avocado, gluten free granola with almond milk and a little bit of kefir and usually blueberries or strawberries, etc. There are a lot of options out there I think but everyone is different. What works for me might be a train wreck for someone else. In the past, I monitored carb intake only and really ate whatever healthy fats and proteins that I wanted. I rarely went over calorie guidelines and I lost weight pretty easily. I am just having trouble getting back into the swing of things.

I forgot to say that I lost way more slowly than most MFPers—so be patient. But I did it just like everybody else—by eating at a deficit.

I followed the advice in this post: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1080242-a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants

    I've lost 17 so far with Hashimoto's.

I eat eggs or cereal for breakfast, sometimes with a Greek yogurt.

Turkey and cheese sandwich meat rolled up with apple, carrots, cucumber, and/or yogurt for lunch.

At the moment i haven't worried much about macros, but I try to meet them.

The nutritionist I saw was an advocate for protein and fats for me. Along with cutting all added sugars. Lower than normal people carbs. Not necessarily low carb. I had to restructure the way I ate. I ate healthy stuff but just waay too much of a good thing. And not often enough. Currently 14 lbs down (started before mfp) and counting.

I eat gluten-free oats with brasil nuts ( because of selenium ) and chia seeds, soaked overnight in a vegetable "milk". I add some fruit to the mix as well.
I have problems with my iron levels so I try to separate foods high in calcium from those high in iron nowadays. For example since oats deliver iron I make sure my vegetable "milk" does not have any calcium added, but I drink a glass of cow milk or vegetable milk fortified with calcium and vit. D as my morning snack.
