Hello low carbers

Myself and Cramernh have spent a lot of time building and moderating this group and would like to say a huge thank you for everyone's support and input over the last year.

For personal & health reasons neither of us can currently give the group the input and moderation it needs so we are looking for one or two volunteer group moderators for the group. Ideally we would like an active low carb group contributor who is familiar with the rules and regulatrions of myfitnesspal and who logs in daily. They would need to moderate the posts, ensuring mfp regualtions are not violated and acting upon any violations where necessary. I am not leaving the group completely and will check in when I can.

If you are interested in becoming a moderator or have any further questions please send me a pm.

I wish all of you a very happy new year, and a healthy 2013!

I really enjoyed spending time here and helping out where I could alongside Laura_beau, however....

My health is not good right now and even was forced to stop tracking everything on MFP. Ive not been able to exercise because of what is going on right now... and I just dont have the time to be on here like I used to anymore.

Im trying to find a silver-lining with what is going on with me health-wise but Im about to learn whether or not I have tumors of the brain, adrenal glands and/or pancreas... thankfully I work for some amazing healthcare surgeons, specialists and providers who are collaborating with the other facility that is about to send me for radiology... if it comes back positive for tumors, I will be going for surgery immediately within the same health system that I work for.

Laura and I hope two people could pick up where we left off.

I want to stress to whomever wants this, you have no choice but to follow MFP guidelines even as moderators/administrators - if you would like more information, please read the Community Guidelines...

This group currently has over 4000 people - that is utterly fantastic! Laura and I would love to see it remain and keep growing...

I will check in from time to time as will Laura, Im sure.. as we would like to exchange controls...

    Thanks so much,

    Melanie

    Melanie,

My hope and prayers go with you. It’s not long, but I am 2 ½ months NED after an excision of two invasive malignant melanoma tumors and SLNB in my groin. I am convinced that it did not spread and my healing has been so fast because of my low carb eating. The best of luck (and science) to you.

    Chuck

I would love to do it, but I might be going back to work in the next five weeks and that will take up a lot of my time.

I could take it on, but I haven't been here very consistently lately so not sure you would want me. I have moderated another forum for a few years.

Hmm. I'm just back after an absence due to some of my own health issues. I'd be happy to help, if someone can teach me what to do....it would truly help me get back to my mfp discipline, that I'd lost(after a dedicated 6 months of logging in every day.) So yeah, pm me if you still need someone. I think it would help my state of mind:)

I've been here a few months and I've been a Low carber just as long (Grant it, I'm not the best low carber, I'm still getting used to it). I'm a housewife with no kids and literally nothing better to do besides working out. I'd love to help!

I'm not sure what's involved in being a moderator but maybe I can help. Here's my background.
I"m a former WW (Lifetime) member and Jenny Craig alumni who finally was introduced to Gary Taubes Good Calories Bad Calories in 2011. My wife and I put the principals into place and remarkably weight became MUCH easier to manage. my wife lost 40 pounds going from a 14 to an 8 so quickly it was amazing. i lost about 20 and am stable.

but I still find a food diary is a great approach to making sure you aren't kidding yourself.

I use a Net Carbs approach so I have added the 'fiber' category to customize my efforts here. i keep track of my progress on a separate little spreadsheet in Excel and track my weight, % Body Fat and% Muscle Mass as well as my pulse, and pulse pressure statistics. I track my cholesterol quarterly and am well under 200 (180) but my cholesterol focus in on triglycerides. Since joining my fitness pal abotu 2 weeks ago i'm down about 3 pounds but more importantly my % body fat is coming down and my muscle mass is headed back up.

I don't use the 'extra calories' that exercise gives you. I think that's a misleading thing to rely on. the calories in calories out model is one of the flaws of this website. it's much more important to be sure the carbs are under control and that Ketosis has been introduced to the body.

other than that I run, swim, lift and have about a year's worth of Krav Maga under my belt.

I'm 58 and pretty much can outrun most 30 year olds I"m afraid.

so let me know if I can help I just don't know what being a moderator really means but I think I know the basics.

I still want to take off more body fat, I'm at 22% and am convinced I can get under 20. but the body does have its own wisdom. I'm tracking to under 70 net grams of Carbs per day which i think is not bad. done less at times.

let me know how I might help. I'm in southern california. you can email me here I guess if you like.

Okay it's been a little while since there was a post on here and I didn't want to assume that all of you were still up for the moderator job- but our current moderator has had to pull out so I'm on the lookout again!

Anyone who has a lot of free time/ low carber/ familiar with the rules of the site please message me and I will make you a guest moderator.

    Thanks

I might be willing to help. So basically, the moderator just reads the daily posts and if someone files a report, then the moderator is notified? Also, I guess the moderator is notified when someone has 3 strikes? I guess I just need more info on what the moderator does before I commit. I am on daily (with a few exceptions) and I am doing low carb.
  • I just started on the site but am not a newbie to low carbing - if you give me some details on the guidelines I would be willing to moderate :)

Me too - I have done low carb for a couple of years, although just joined here in January. I would be happy to help. The only exception is if I get a job - but I've been unemployed for 2 years, so it's not looing good right now . . . let me know if you need some assistance.

I can help. I've been following a low carb diet since 2/2011. I need to be filled in on the details, but I have the time. Send me an email. I used to have a bumper sticker on my car that read, "Low Carb Proselyte." After turning my life over to Jesus I changed it to read, "Low Carb Coach."

Is anyone out there still doing Atkins? I hope so because it works! I have received invaluable information on these forums that has helped me through some pretty rough days. I did a few days of the Atkins diet several years ago before I got so familiar with the internet and without the support I couldn't understand things like the Induction Flu or why it was so important to keep carbs low. I even read the first Atkins book several times, but it was still not sinking in! It's especially difficult to keep your willpower when you aren't sure if you will feel cruddy for the entire time you are on the diet. I want to thank everyone who ever posted a question about Induction and especially thank everyone who gave an encouraging and informative answer. I owe a lot of my willpower this time around to you people. You're the greatest!!

I am going to be asking questions and I guess if there is no one out there to answer them, then I will try to answer them myself. I hope all the wonderful low carbers are doing well! Now that I'm committed to doing low carb, I would hate to find out that you all succumbed to some horrible disease from your low carb life-styles! Lol! I don't think that is the case. People get busy with their lives, I know, but I hope someone with reliable information is still around? I'll wait to see.

memlizzy, you should create a new topic for your questions. This topic is not one that people are going to see and respond to.
