Bloating and Gas

I have been debating posting this for a few days but even though I'm embarrassed to ask and it may be a bit TMI, I really need to know if I'm the only one...
I started Medifast on April 8. On May 20 I took what ended up being a two week break and restarted on June 3. The entire time I have been on Medifast I have days were I feel extremely bloated. It's uncomfortable and annoying but I can deal with it. Since restarting though the bloat is usually accompanied by frequent terrible gas. And when I say terrible I am talking about the smell. This has never been an issue for me before. Not like this. It's happening way to often and it's really embarrassing. Any idea what this might be from? Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas of something I can do to make it better? My diary is open if you want to look.

Yes, to all of the above. I suspect it's from the fiber, but not positive. I've been trying to figure it out as well. I tried taking probiotics for a while, but that didn't help. I tried taking pepto, but that just made me constipated. I don't really have the answer. I just wanted you to know that I'm having the same issues and I started Feb 18th.... so just under 5 months.0

I am so glad I'm not alone! I started mixing Miralax in with my food to help with constipation because I had that problem too. It does help, but doesn't relieve it completely. This may just be something we have to deal with unfortunately :grumble: because it's not worth it to me to quit just because of some smelly gas!0

Oh btw, I increased my fat intake and that has fixed the constipation. Unfortunately, still have the gas and bloating.0

I may have to try that. I've been staying within the 10-30 grams that TSFL says you're allowed to have but if upping it is going to help with the constipation I have a feeling that the extra fat won't effect my weight since I'll be losing a little more!0

Don't worry about TMI--mine is so bad, my 7 year old calls it Medi-Gas. Bloating is not too much of a problem but occasionally I have an upset stomach.0

So I decided to Google this today, not sure why I never thought of it before but this is what I found...

One of the things it said in there was that blending your meals can cause extra gas. That might be the cause of my problem because I've started blending just about everything! I blend my shakes, pudding, hot chocolate, smoothies, even my softbakes! It does seem to be getting a little better too which may be because I've been back on for almost 3 weeks. Strange though that my body reacted to it now but not the first time.
Also, p0nderful... Medi-Gas made me laugh so hard! If it's not too creepy, give your 7 year old a high five for me!0 -
I started up Medifast on April 2nd (so pretty close to the same as you). I had the same problem (and this was my second time around also). I started taking Schiff Digestive Advantage Probiotic Gummies about a month ago, and they really helped a lot with my gas. Also, it helped to clear up the constipation as well. The gummies are a little high on the sugars, but it is really worth it to me. I just work out a little harder. I do have some days where the gas comes back, but not nearly as bad as before I started taking them. They are a little expensive, but you can get a huge container at Costco.0

I will be looking for those on my next trip to Costco! Thanks for sharing!0 -
Just an FYI I went to Costco to get the gummies today and they're on rebate for $4 off through July 6th
Wanted to share in case anyone else was interested.0 -
I think I'd like to try the gummies too. When do you take them? It says adults take 2 per day. So do you take them at the same time together every day, split them up at different times, eat before meals etc?0

I got mine last night. I started taking them this morning. I'm going to try taking one for a week or so and see if that's enough or if I do need two. I want to start at one that way I can keep the carbs down, if possible.0

Personally, I take both gummies after I do my workout in the morning. My hubby does one in the morning and one when he gets home from work. Both of us have had similar results, so I don't think it really matters how you take them. Thanks for the tip on the discount. Costco is the way to go to get these. They are super expensive at the grocery store.0
