Fave Fast Food Low Carb Meals

So I tend to almost never eat at home. We have a busy lifestyle so I have to make healthy choices on the go almost every day. I've learned where I can eat the best and still enjoy the food. I'd love to hear from all of you on what you've found as you dine out - especially at Fast Food restaurants!
Today I just discovered Firehouse Subs. I used to love eating there, but avoided it because of all the bread. Well today I gave it another shot and found that they have this awesome salad - The Italian with Grilled Chicken Chopped Salad. Under 500 calories, only 18 carbs, 8 fiber and 32 grams of fat. It was tasty and I feel nice and full.
Anyway - I'd love to see some conversation here as I'm always looking for ideas!

I eat out quite often too. I love Firehouse Subs. We don't have any close to me in California, but I always go when I'm in Tucson visiting family. I know Subway has a lot of different types of salads. They are low carb. Subway also has a double chicken chopped salad 220 calories, 10 carbs, 36 protein and 4.5 grams of fat. That's without dressing. Jersey Mike's has a "sub in a tub." It's just the sandwich without the bread.
I enjoy going to In-N-Out and getting a "protein style" cheeseburger. Most places that sell burgers you can ask for protein style or if they won't do it just order extra lettuce and throw out the bun. I know Fuddruckers, Carl's Jr and The Habit also do protein style.
I'm not sure how low carb you like to go but you can also get two "street style" tacos. Corn tortillas are about 55 calories and only 10 grams of carbs. I go to a local taco shop and they use the small 4 inch corn tortillas and those are only 5 carbs and about 23 calories. I get carne asada and it comes with steak, onions, cilantro and hot sauce. A crunchy taco from Taco bell is 170 calories and 12 carbs. El Pollo Loco you can get a side salad and a chicken breast.
Chicken wings are another option but they are usually really salty. Just watch sodium if you are tracking that. KFC has grilled chicken. Green beans or side salad as a side.0 -
OK....McDonalds has a grilled chicken wrap that has 370 calories with a large unsweetened Ice Tea you can drive through in two minutes. You can tell them Al sent you but you need to practice saying no when they ask you if you want fries with that.
Also the correct answer is no when they ask if you want two apple pies for a dollar.
I work across the street for the McDonald's Head Quarters and they are always trying something new at the Corporate Kitchen.
Seriously though if you go to the web pages of the fast food chains you can find a lot of good choices. My issue is I did not get to be 350 pounds by saying no to the Fries (or Apple Pie for that matter). I tend to stay away form the fast food chains as I am pretty sure my brain is saying chicken wrap but my mouth says Big Mac.0 -
Jimmy John's has an Unwich. Which is any sandwich wrapped in lettuce instead of bread. Quite good. I'm also celiac, so can't eat bread and it's delicious.
I also like Taco Time's SW Chopped Chicken Salad with pico de gallo dressing. I think the whole thing is only 14 carbs. :-)0 -
This is a great discussion because there are healthier choices available just about everywhere, and as Alsvic says, it's up to us to order that healthier choice. Even regular restaurants often have healthier options. This past weekend I ate at a place that had a salad and mini sandwich option, and you could take off 1 slice of the bread for an open-face sandwich if you want to reduce the carbohydrate further. ~Lynn /Glucerna0

Hubby and I are also eat out people. I cook at home when he can't join me, but it's easier for us both to eat the food we want when we go out. So, most of the time we eat out.
There are a few places where I will eat fast food for a full meal (many others I'll just get a snack). I love Panera. Their salads and soups are awesome! Most of their soups are only 15-20 grams of carbs per small serving. I just say no to the bread and chips. Sometimes I'll get an apple. Other times I just don't get any sides...they can't take the price down, but that doesn't mean it needs to be on the plate.
I like Five Guys Burger and Fries. I get the no bun burger with BBQ sauce and have some peanuts instead of fries. It's pretty tasty!
There's a new chain going up around here, that I hope goes nationwide, called Piada. It's Italian street food. Yes, I could order the Piada which is pasta with toppings wrapped in a very thin Italian bread burrito like thing. Instead I get a small salad and a small bowl of pasta (hold 1/2 the pasta please!) and add tons of veggies. It's past without all the bread and only what I truly want to eat in the pasta department. Yummy Italian on my terms. It works like Chipotle where you pick what you want.
I also go to a place like Chipotle called Hot Head (not as spicy, if you don't want it). I get a little brown rice, some black beans, chicken, tomato pico and corn pico with a tiny bit of sour cream, plus cheese and lots of lettuce in a bowl. Their taco sauce is tasty too. When I'm really hungry, I get double chicken.
I agree with everyone else. You can find something at just about any place. It's usually just one or two items when it comes to fast food, though. So, I don't eat their often. Usually, we try to do bar & grill places which have more choices.
Create a great day!

I discovered a new place (to me) this past weekend. Panda Express! So I love Chinese food, but have obviously been avoiding the buffet's as I know I have a hard time with portion control in that environment. Well my son wanted Panda Express the other night so I logged on to their website to see if they had a nutrition calculator (my fave thing is when a company goes to the trouble to make one of these - that should be another post, listing who has them). Well - they have a great nutrition calculator. I also noticed right away that they have low carb options to chose from if you want to avoid rice and/or noodles. You can get mixed veggies instead of fried rice (16g carbs vs. 64g carbs)! Then they have Grilled Chicken Teriyaki (8g carbs) and about 7 other main dish items that all range from about 10g carbs to 16g carbs. So I was able to eat a Chinese dinner that was around 600 calories, under 40g carbs and really satisfied my Chinese craving with a ton of healthy veggies to boot!0

I love the way you took the time to look for nutrition information online and used that information to decide ahead of time what to order. Restaurants with more than 20 locations are required to make nutrition information available, and often that means they post information online. ~Lynn /Glucerna0

I'm a manager at a corporate mcdonald's! Previously, I would eat the pies and a big mac and all the "mistake" drinks (frappes, shakes.)
Now I eat two packs of apple slices and a grilled chicken bacon wrap with no garlic, sub habenero. I open it up and don't eat the wrap. All though my favorite days are when my blood sugar is low and I get an apple juice or crispy chicken on my wrap!
My only problem is during our peak times (and possible mystery shop hours) I'm used to tasting the food to make sure it's hot and fresh. I still eat some fries out of the bin, just to make sure they're fresh! (Only one at a time). On days my blood sugar is high, I have to designate a crew member to be my fry taster!0 -
My other work food is a burger pattie covered in grilled onions with a piece of swiss cheese. Not super low-calorie, but low-carb. The crew are always so confused when I'm ringing up my food and I normally have to go make it myself.0
