Hi,
My name is Laurie and though new to this group, I am not new to trying to get off a few pounds. Well, it's time for me to get serious. I am 55 and need to lose 65 lbs. My blood pressure has tweaked its way to high and my doctor has given me 30 days to show some progress or it is RX time. I really don't want to be on hypertension medicine but I will if after the 30 days there is no improvement. So on my journey starts. I have 2 weeks until my appointment and I have taken off 7 lbs and drastically reduced my sodium intake (who knew if you didn't add table salt that you could have sodium overload?) so here goes declaring it REAL!

    Hi Laurie -
I've only been here a short time so haven't much advice but wanted to welcome you as others have welcomed me. I too have doctor-ordered weight loss mandate. I find the MFP food and exercise diary a great boon! It is easy to use and help me stay on track and motivated. I'm starting to feel like this is do-able.

I don't know if 7 pounds in 2 weeks is a realistic goal but at least you can print your diary and show your doctor the efforts you've made even if you don't quite make it. I also think you will find the diary will help you target the foods that are high in salt (seems like all the processed stuff is). The good news is that I'm having a hard time getting enough salt as I add more fresh food to my diet.

Adding a few friends helps because now I feel that I am accountable. Feel free to add me as a friend.

    Hello Laurie & Kay-Welcome!

Here is to a safe journey for all of us.

Focusing can be difficult, knowing meds are next up Laura can be a great motivator. Nothing like a doctors visit to make you stand up and take note eh?

Write everything down, eat whole foods as opposed to processed and move as much as possible.
You both mentioned food what about exercise? Like you Laura I've been down this road before and the one thing that I noticed every time I lost weight I was exercising- moving more. When I was gaining I was sitting. Yep the two went hand in hand. Just like a bad relationship doomed to fail sitting equaled weight gain.

So here is to a fresh start. This is the first day of the rest of your life. May it be healthy and long ladies.

Hi and Thank you all. I have really been motivated and on track. My blood pressure has been going down which was one of my goals! Yay! Doctors appointment on the 8th and hoping she is happy with my slow but sure progress. The 4th of July cookouts are a little intimidating, I must say. Watermelon, green salad, chicken breast, corn with no additions and I will be full. I hope you all have a plan for the holiday because it all looks so tempting when you are staring blindly with an empty plate. Good Luck :)

Hi! I'm a newbie too! I got the mfp app months ago, and have gotten into the habit of tracking my food. So now I really want to try the forums for support. I think that's what I need. I should do a new post introducing myself like Laurie has. So, HI Laurie!

Hello Everyone! Basically a newbie too. I have a few goals in this weight loss journey:

Cut out sugars (I use sweetened creamer in my coffee and drink Coca-Cola)
Cut out fast foods (do this way too often)
Become more active (stop blending into the computer chair and couch... )

So far I've managed to cut my soda pop consumption (down to maybe 1 a day compared to 4 or 6!) But I just cannot get my palette to like black coffee. Haven't been out to fast food for over 10 days and have started walking for 30 minutes in the mornings.

My body roadblocks are: HRT and Hypothyroidism I've transferred to a hormone compound instead of premarin and my thyroid medication was just bumped up to 125mg since my level that should be 2-3 was at 7.... again.

Looking forward to suggestions and support in the Over 50 Ladies group. Hope everyone has a fantastic day.
