Hello, all. I wanted to ask a question, so thought I'd go ahead and start this week's thread. I haven't weighed yet. Will do that tomorrow a.m.

But here's the question, which came up as I look at my stats: How much of deficit (on paper) does it take for you to lose? When I first started with BodyBugg, I found that I needed about a deficit of 250 calories plus the extra 200 that I started adding to make up for human error, bad food labels, etc., to lose a half pound a week. I'm finding now that I stay the same with a 450/day deficit.

Have any of you noticed a difference over time? I'm a person who likes the numbers to work out, and seeing a deficit with no loss when I'm trying to accurately log food is puzzling. Should I aim for a 700 calories a day deficit and hope that the extra 250 will be the half pound per week loss?

    SW: 238
    LW: 193.8
    TW 191.2

    Reduction of 2.6!!!

Ok. Still a little disappointed - yes I know. You gals are in the last stages of weight reduction...me on the other hand, well, just look at my weight!! I'm continuing to work with my new diet coach to see changes...and I'm seeing them, just got real excited the first week and was hoping for at least one more week of that nice big number. I get my first metabreak meal this Saturday...oh what shall I have? Well, the normal bbq fanfare of meats of course, but I think I'm going to indulge in some fresh cantaloupe and watermelon!!! Maybe a little Halo Halo as well (Filipino milkshake that hubby wants to make). Otherwise, I do plan to stay on track. May even stay dry (other than pool water wet) - we'll see. That may be a huge stretch for me.

Sarah, when I had the bodybugg, I did best at a 750 deficit. The fitbit doesn't track the calorie burn as accurately as the BB did, so I'm really unsure what I would follow now. That may be part of my own challenge. And like you, I love numbers. BTW - still waiting for the Dexa scan results to come in. If they aren't here this morning, I am going to see if I can pick up on my way home or on my way in tomorrow morning. I WANT TO KNOW!! eeek gads!!

I chatted with Cheryl yesterday and she's doing well...crazy busy with her Dragon Boat Season starting (first race is next weekend).

Light - praying for you and hoping all is well with you

    Sheesh - GL again?

Congrats again Lois!! Keep up the good work! Here's mine:

    SW: 156
    LW: 134.5
    TW: 135
    (gain of .5)

Dang. Problem is I've just been too busy. Had a lot of contractors coming to seal floors, patio, driveway. Yardwork. Getting ready for ALL my kids and grandkids to come stay for a week starting tomorrow. My FitBit numbers are low, but partly because I took on a lunge challenge last month, and my legs were too hashed toward the end to do much cardio. Worked up to 150 lunges! Finally finished June 30th. Hubby had a birthday, having a grand-daughter birthday when they visit. On life goes . . . I'm trying to maintain until July 11th when everyone goes back home. I'm aiming to keep my intake reasonable in the meantime.

Hope you all have a fabulous holiday weekend!

Sarah, I'm wondering if your metabolic rate has reduced with aging and loss of lean body mass. Calories are burned in the muscle. (Actually a bit in the fat also, but the muscle is the real "engine" of calorie burn.) Lifting weights and weight bearing exercise builds or at least maintains muscle and bone mass. Plus, your body gets very efficient (can use fewer calories) at doing the same movements all the time. Thus, fewer calories are burned from the natural aging process (we can't eliminate all loss of lean mass - muscle and bone - from aging), and efficiency from "familiar" movement. I know I sound like a broken record, but lifting weights, jogging, running, sprinting will increase lean mass. (The pounding from running improves bone and lean mass.) Changing it up even a little might help. (Like really fast walking, or a DVD, or lifting heavy weights for a while.) You might also try increasing your protein a bit, AND at the same time lowering starchy carbs. I wouldn't go too low on calorie intake, but just adjust the macros (protein to carb ratio) and see what happens. Really big deficits slow your metabolism. Good luck!

I know the "hows". If I could just DO it consistently . . . that's the hard part!!!

    Hi, all,

I'm checking in now just to share what is going on. My weight is about the same, by the way as last week. It was 144.2 this morning.

This has been a heck of a day. Work was crazy, and I had an appointment after work. The parking lot that I went to is a zoo. There's a Trader Joe's there that get lots of business and I was going two doors down from that. There seems to always be people parked over the lines or near the lines or something. Anyway, tonight I pulled into a space, realized that the car next to me was crooked and decided to back out and get a little further away. So I decided to back into the two empty spaces behind me. Only in the time it took me pull in and make this decision, a car had parked in one of those spaces and I side swiped it. It didn't do a lot of damage to him--mostly scrapes and some paint from my car, but I did more damage to my car--the car I've only had a few months! Now I have to spend time and money dealing with this, just when our new ad campaign is starting (on Monday) and I'll have no help at all for the first week. I can't believe that my client approved leave for the only other person who responds to questions, comments, requests, etc. about this major national campaign during the first week of this phase.

All in all, it's not that bad. I'll figure out how to pay for both cars' repairs and no one was hurt. But I feel like someone just slugged me in the gut! So, I just wanted to reach out to my buddies here on the SNS team and say, please send me some good thoughts and say a little prayer that all this works out okay with no unforeseen repercussions.

Lois, let us know what the dexa shows, and Sheesh, thanks for prodding me again about strength training, and have a great time with the grandkids.

it's Wed and it's bedtime but I'm trying to stay with it so here I am. Weight is up 1 lb (185 today) which I find very unfair but such is life. Adding more activity so we shall see how it goes.

    Lois, thanks for the prayers...

Sheesh, have a great time with the family and grandkids

Sarah, sorry about the car mishap. Bummer but glad no one got hurt

Crap Buckets!!! I'm up .5 from Tuesday weigh in. Tomorrow's my weigh in with my coach. The sucky part is that it will show a 1lb reduction to him from last week. Where the heck did the .5 come from?!?!?! I've been honestly logging EVERYTHING. I mean, and I eat the same darn thing every day!!

This past week has been tough as I lost my cousin to cancer on Sunday (she would have been 54 this past Monday) and on Tuesday, just when I was coming out of my funk from my cousin, my sister in law's dad passed away (he was 92). I think because it was just so close to my cousin, it hit me so very hard. Instead of reaching for comfort foods, I didn't really eat for a couple of days (700 cals I think). But that was Fri/Sat/Sun as I was awaiting updates on my cousin. Ah well. Tomorrow is the official weigh day with him, so we'll see where it ends up.

With all that has been happening, I have also not been doing much physically. Last night was my only workout in the past week (except a quick 3mile hike Sat am). No other real activity. Steps have been low.

OK...so maybe above is my answer why. And I forgot my backpack, frogg tog towel and mister. It's going to be 109 today, so without those essential items, no hiking tonight =((. UGH!!!

Just wanted to pop in say that I hope everyone has a safe, enjoyable July 4th.

I'm so sorry Lois to hear about the deaths in your family. A close girlfriend's mom died a few weeks ago and we went to the wake last Saturday, but she was 95--54 is way to young to go.

Knowing the things that people are dealing with at any given time has helped me put some perspective on the series of smaller, aggravating problems that I've been dealing with.

Light, I so often think about you and hope that things are working out with your son and grandson. I too say little prayers for all of you that I've come to know on this thread, including some of those who seem to have come and gone.

It's going to be a moderately hot day here in the DC suburbs, but a little muggy due to to storm coming up the coast. We are going to a cookout around 4 p.m. and to fireworks later this evening. Next week our campaign starts with only me on board to handle the backlash, so I'm hoping to stash some serenity to call on, if needed.

I, too, am falling way down on steps. I was creating stress in my life by letting things go in order to always walk an hour. I've got to find balance. Gosh--that's a continuing theme!

Lois, sorry to hear the losses you have been dealing with, you too, Sarah. Sad when you lose a family member, no matter what the circumstances.

Things are no better over here... just going one day at a time and trying to put one foot in front of the other. Nice to have some garden time this weekend as it does make me feel somewhat better :) THanks for the prayers, particularly for the little guys.
