30something specifics?

What are some things that are specific to 30somethings? By 'things' I mean life circumstances, physical things, etc. We have more in common than just our current decade, ya?
I imagine many of us have spouses and youngish kids? (no for me on both)
So that would create certain demands on time and energy.
We hear about our metabolism "slowing down" after the big 3-0 ... have you found this to be true?
In my twenties an older friend told me about a related-but-opposite effect: he called it 'old man muscle' and said in his 30s he seemed to be in better shape than when he was younger. I'm not sure if this has happened to me yet but here's hoping.
Career-wise folks are probably getting in to 'middle management' range? Can't get away with being sweaty from your lunch hour as much as you could in your 20s?

I can comment on the whole old man muscle, I know I have much more strength and better muscle definition, but I also work out a lot more then I did in my 20's.0

I'll comment on the metabolism thing: mine has definitely slowed down. I fondly remember the days in my teens and 20's when I could put down an entire pizza or 2-3 hamburgers at one sitting. No more.
I think our 30's are also a time of life where we mature a lot more rapidly as people. We've got a good bit of life experience under our belts, and many of us have spouses and/or children that we're responsible to, which kind of makes us 'grow up.'0 -
I am definitely living the life you described and I am 35. I am married and have two young children (4-6). I have been teaching for 9 years (not too new, but not veteran enough to be seen as "experienced"). Lucky to not have any physical issues (besides extra weight), but slightly worry about aging parents. My mom, who is almost 60, just got diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and my dad is definitely losing some hearing. The typical "30-Somethings" life, I think. Life is busy, for sure!
Not sure about the metabolism thing. My weight has been a roller coaster for as long as I can remember, so I can't really contribute excess weight to a slowing metabolism. I do worry about my skin elasticity getting worse with age, as I don't want to look older just because I've lost weight, so that is motivation to lose now before I get much older.
