Good days and Monster Days

My husband jokes that the gremlin came out. Some days are just terrible for me, it is like I get smacked with all of the hypo symptoms all at once. Most days I am fine, but i really wonder about these monster days. Should I be looking into a different dosage? a different prescription?
I take Synthroid .50mcg right before bed, usually around 11pm-12am (i really could not manage taking it in the morning). I do not eat (or drink anything other than water) after 8pm to be sure that I am not causing an interaction.

I get days that are totally off too. My Endo has no explanation but I talked to my OBGYN and she felt it was hormone related. The thyroid is interconnected to so much that it can be affected by changes in other hormones. That is just her theory.
Another thought I had after some research is that people with normal thyroid function can produce thyroid hormones "as needed", so anytime during the day the thyroid can produce more or less. If you don't have a thyroid or it isn't working "normal" you don't get that. My Endo just says to learn to deal with it, not sure I agree but my options for Endo's is limited.0 -
I have the same thing and I love that you call them monster days because that is exactly what they are.
They seem to occur more when I do not take care of myself or when I over do it. I have found that it works best if I tell my husband and even my kids that I am just not having a good day - I try and take some time alone to recharge. Sometimes I'm so grumpy I get on my own nerves :huh:0 -
Haha, monster days! I definitely have days that I'm crazy tired and I have noticed recently that some imes I have a really short fuse? I do the same thing and tell kids that I'm not having a good day and they give me some space! I also feel better when I can get a little exercise in, it really helps mentally. Usually I go for a bike ride or a walk maybe it could also be fresh air and sunshine that give e a boost?0

I've only been on proper medication for less than a year, still, but before being treated I remember days where I'd be going about my business and suddenly become so overwhelmingly exhausted I could barely get changed before tottering to bed. Other days I'd wake up feeling like I'd been in a car accident or dropped off the roof the day before. Would these be examples of monster days?
It might be good to track the suckers, see if they have any relationship to menstrual cycles or carbohydrate binges or exercise level or whatever.
I find my weight changes the second morning after a particular dietary escapade, so if you are looking for patterns in presumed-thyroid "monster days" don't forget to consider a 24 or 48 hour delay.
But it might be something other than your thyroid too--PMS, Bipolar...having thyroid disease doesn't mean there cannot also be something else wrong, though thyroid is first on the suspect list.
Tracking for patterns might help you discern if your thyroid meds need adjusting or if you have a separate issue.
I wish there was an at-home TSH/T4 meter for us, like diabetics have blood glucose monitors. :sigh:0 -
To pick up on something LAT 1963 said. It is most probable that someone with thyroid issues will have other problems too. Placed as it is central to many of our bodies systems, cell repair, digestion, menstrual cycles for a few . UK Thyroid site says people with salicylate sensitivity are very likely to have thyroid problems because thyroid helps eliminate toxins form the systems. I have been fortunate recently, following 4.5 years in the deliberately, by me, untreated wilderness after years of having my symptoms dismissed, to now be on a low dose of children's levothyroxine syrup. This only because I reacted to both the original pills with maize as the filler/binder as I did to paracetamol with the same filler/binder and one relatively local l consultant realised my plight and ensured I saw a more local endocrinology specialist rather than be "treated" by the "think i can treat this" local doctor. If that had happened I would have no hope at all.
I used to do fantastic monster days. My moods would go from normal to off the scale in seconds in either direction but usually down. The worst part is that the medical profession is split as to the best way to treat low thyroid and none in my locality have any understanding of salicylate sensitivity, this is not under the same heading as allergy. I have lived for years being told you have none specific allergies to find through proper investigation there is, nothing. Salicylate as in aspirin which is also in many vegetative foods has been poisoning me for years. I will be interested to find what my proper prescription will be and what other gains I will make from here on out. I have come back from chronic fatigue and severe joint/muscle/ head pain, but now I have difficulty with smells, perfumes, washing powders, household cleaners and plant exude salicylate which makes it impossible for me to go to busy places. Even masked up, with my respro chemical filter, which filters down to 3 microns, I was ill for two days following spending 2.5 hours at a granddaughters, probably last drama/dance school performance in the towns theatre, I was unable to move, to do anything, but that was before my syrup when I was only supporting my thyroid with foods containing iodine. Now I can try to re introduce what I fancy till I hit my maximum. On two mornings this week I have not cleaned my teeth with bicarb but with tooth paste, Bedtime doing this would wake my brain up and I'd not sleep. That was put down to depression, bless that doctor!0 -
ISometimes I'm so grumpy I get on my own nerves
Ohhh i have been there, then the self loathing and depression kick in strong too!0 -

The problem is getting myself off the couch and out of the fetal position. there is no motivation, and my hubby know better than to suggest anything to me, lol. I need more discipline i guess, because, yeah, this last monster day, I did not exercise at all!0
