Oh, Nancy, I can't imagine that kind of heat. We hit 90 here and everyone passes out. Thank goodness that's only 1 day all year, LOL. Today is chore day. Jim has been charging around, vacuuming, gathering the recycling and trash, doing laundry. I have been cleaning dishes and the kitchen and am now tackling the horrible box of neglected paperwork. Literally hundreds of pages of medical and insurance stuff and tax stuff (related to the medical stuff because I need to deduct medical expenses). It's really a nightmare, but I need to wade through, organize, make the phone calls, pay the bills, fix the tax issues. Yeah... I never used to fall behind on stuff like this. Stupid Still's! Anyway, I will get it done and set up a better system so I don't have this issue in the future.
I STILL don't have my challenge stuff!!! Feeling very crippled and sore today so I haven't gone out yet. I think I'll finish sorting the horror box though and then head out. I want this to be something fun, not something I dread.
My big plan for the day is a 90 minute swim along the shoreline, then I'm going to hang fairy lights in my studio and work on Bigfoot for a while under the lights. You know, a little romance, LOL.
Hhope all is well for you my friends!

Oh, I love when the universe is good to me! Jim and I have had our noses to the proverbial grindstone all day, and I am so excited to say that the heinous paperwork box from hell has now been sorted and everything is in file folders waiting to be action-itemed. (Not a word but should be). I'm looking at the time and realizing I need to get my swim in NOW even though the sky looks very stormy. So, I decided it was okay to not earn any challenge points, because I'm not running to the store and wolfing down three new things... and then I remembered that the challenge runs Sat-Sun-Mon, because I figured some weekends are just too crazy. Like mine, LOL! So tomorrow I can do my challenge! Yay!
The other good universe present was that Jim found an armoire at the dump! I know, I know... sounds trashy (literally), but my little town has the BEST recycling program (highest rate of recycling in Maine) because we have an AWESOME solid waste director, so not only do we have recycling stations for just about everything, we also have a" swap shop" where you can leave or take everything from books to boots to furniture. I've been looking for an armoire with drawers for ages--something to put in an unused space off our living room--a place to put towels and suits in summer and mittens and scarves in winter--a place to put some of my clothes and gym gear so I don't have to tackle the stairs as often. Jim found a great one--solid oak!--and is polishing it up on the back deck right now. He looks so pleased with himself, LOL!!!
So... good day. I'm on target with water. Light on calories. Heading out to exercise now. Happy Sunday!

Back from vacation and feeling pretty ok with how I ate. I would have liked to get a bit more "real" exercise in, but between walking and mini golf and swimming/playing with the kids I did ok. (And I jumped in the pool when I got home to get some of that "real" stuff in!)
So I messed up a little because I thought the new foods challenge was Fri-Sat-Sun. So I am a day ahead of schedule. That doesn't happen often! My three new foods were beets (OMG gross!), Cherries (I know...how could I not have ever had cherries?) and collard greens (OMG yuck!). So I got my 3 points but man, they were not easy to come by and I am grateful it wasn't an all or nothing type thing. I would have been ok with the cherries, but the other two. UH. No!
So back to the routine tomorrow. Hope everyone had a good weekend!
Diana, back in Maine after a quick vacation in NH!!!0 -
I've got a cold or something, and it's super annoying. It started with me losing my voice and my throat feeling a little scratchy on Wednesday, and it's been getting worse each day. I kept pushing through trying to do everything I had planned, and I think it finally caught up to me this afternoon. Yuck! Still managed to cook dinner with Ben and go out for a long walk, though.
The bodi beans were not a hit, but they weren't bad, either. They're like slightly softer green beans, so I'd rather just have the green beans.
I'm off to make some tea, curl up with Ben, and watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer.0 -

Your armoire sounds fantastic Karen! And it doesn't sound trashy at all. Of course this is coming from someone who didn't know what a new item was until I was almost a teenager. My dad was a trash man (worked in a rich part of town) and was always bringing us things home. My first bike was from the trash route. To this day, I'm what most people refer to as a dumpster diver. If I see something by the curb, out for the trash or by the dumpster, I will look at it and if it's in good enough shape it's mine, lol. And I have trained Cody well. He carries on the family tradition.0 -
Today was my final new item and that was the garbanzo beans. First I tried them just as they came and they were pretty good. I can really see myself using them in salads or in my soups. And they have plenty of protein, so extra bonus. I then used the rest as part of a recipe I found. It's supposed to turn them into a crunchy snack item. They still taste great but it's not something I can do again. They turn out quite dry and after the gastric bypass I have trouble getting anything down that's dry (and it's made worse by the fact that I'm not allowed to eat and drink at the same time). The dry food gets stuck in my throat and it's a horrible feeling. Overall though, I'd give them a thumbs up. I'll post the recipe over on that thread in case anyone wants to check it out.0

I posted this on the other group but I thought I would post it here.
This is a bit self congratulatory but I'm going to do it because I am happy with myself and have had one of those feelings of "I can do anything."
Today I did my longest bike ride. I went a total of 45.76 miles. I started my ride at 8:23 Am and rode for a total of four hours. I went an average of 11.24 mph and ascended 691 feet. By the computers estimations I burned 3,442 calories (almost a pound).
Today Is August 3, 2014. I got back on the bike on June 16, 2014, or 49 days ago. In that time I have ridden a combined 225.74 miles.
For a little context, here was my ride on June 16, 2014. Just 2 miles, and I was exhausted at the end of that ride (being in the hardest gear and not knowing didn't help).
It's that little red line in the lower right.
Here is my ride from today. (for more details: http://www.strava.com/activities/175046282)
I started from home and rode the entire Iron Horse Regional Trail, 27 miles. That was suppose to be the end of my trip. I was going to turn around and ride back into Pleasant Hill to the Bay Area Rapid Transit station and take the train home. I got to the end and had the desire to see the bay and dip my toes in the water. Let's just say it looked a lot like a lot shorter trip on my phone. 6.6 mies later uphill, I reached to water. If I wasn't so exhausted I might have jumped up and down, but their were people around and that just wouldn't be proper decorum.
I sat at the bench and watched the kites and enjoyed the breeze.

Pat, that's AMAZING! Congratulations. You've made such ridiculous progress in such a short amount of time. Before you know it, you'll be doing century races!0

So glad to hear the challenge runs thru today. I literally was home for only about 4 hrs all weekend and didnt even get a chance to cook anything, let a lone catus or eggplant. Welp, I guess I know whats for dinner. Lol.0

Thanks everyone, I can't wait to be able to get out and do it again.
Norah, I can see it now, a century race as everyone passes and I trod along at 10mph.0
