Over 50 and need support : )

Hi, I am trying to change my eating and exercise patterns and need support from folks trying to do the same thing. My husband, while supportive, doesn't exercise, and my friends don't go to the gym. So that leaves me on my own to get the job done. I'm ok with that, but would like to hear from others 50+ doing it for themselves too! I have just this week decided to sign up for a 5K and it's really helped me get moving more on the treadmill. I've been a walker for years but never felt like the 'jiggle' in the 'wiggle' was appropriate for jogging. This week I said the heck with that - and started walk/jogging. I'm pretty proud of that since that hasn't been part of my routine. Also, I've been on average a 3x/wk exerciser and plan to increase that to prepare for the 9/14 run I've signed up for. Nutrition is tough for me - I just can't eat what I used to and think about losing the 25 pounds I want to drop. MFP is making it very easy to journal on my iPhone without any excuses to skip it. And I've become very honest in my tracking.
Sorry for the rambling but I'm very excited to get into this, and hope to find some others who can help me with support and encouragement : )

Glad to have your here! Totally understand about not being able to eat what you used to. I love MFP, really makes a difference in what I eat when I'm counting every calorie. Good for you to sign up for a 5K. I think goals are important. Are you using any apps for training? Lot's of people use C25K (couch to 5K) to help them ease into it. There are a lot of other training apps as well, and lots of trackers. Love, love, love technology and smartphones. Feel free to add me as a friend0

Welcome! I also understand about not being able to eat what you used to! I too usually exercise by myself as my friends either don't or cant go at the time I can so I go on my own. I usually bike/walk and just found an app Map My Walk which helps me log how many miles and calories burned! Good luck and feel free to add me as a friend!!0

I just joined too, I am not very hi tech, so I am trying to figure it out, but I know what you mean by not being able to do the same things we did when we were younger, my situation is a little different, I have had some medical issues and I have had five surgeries in the past two years, the last one was just a couple of months ago, so I have limitations on exercising, but I think I do pretty good with my food and calories, so I would love a friend request as well.0

Hi there and welcome. I just turned 60 in June and did get back on my fitness pal in January to lose this weight once and for all! When I was in my early 50's I did start walking program and am proud to say I still do it 5 days a week for at least 30 minutes a day. I started to do T25 with my daughter in law in late June and since we have fallen off the wagon! I am trying to do something else for weight/strength training at least two times per week though, along with the walking of course. I am a total yoyo, gaining and losing the same 30-40 pounds from my teens to now. I put a fitbit on my wish list and got it for Christmas last year. It really keeps me on my toes! Good luck.0
