I met my Goal Weight Today.
It is on to Maintenance.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I checked and did my BMR and TDEE.
I am going to start at 1300 calories and go from there.

I am 66 years old.
I exercise in the morning 30 mins and take the overweight dog for a walk in the afternoon for 10 mins.

Glad to join your group.

I'm eager to read any responses you get to your post, as I'm nearing maintenance. One tip I have is to weigh daily once you reach maintenance. That way, you can easily self-correct if you're seeing numbers you don't like, plus you fold this habit into your daily routine. This is different than the "weigh weekly" advice we usually follow when trying to lose weight.

  • For me its was all about trial and error, just increased calories to a point where I didn't lose anymore and didnt gain either

    Enjoy this new phase :)

    Thank you for your suggestions.
Thats what I thought I will start increasing my calories a little bit at a time.

I did my Bmr and TDEE, for what calories I should have.

I NEVER thought about weighing daily....great idea!! I am so used to weighing weekly, it's become a habit!!! I'll have to try that and see how it goes. Thanks for the suggestion!! Look forward to talking/typing more....

I've been at my maintenance stage since about July, but just found this group. I am happy to join your discussions, especially since it seems this holiday season is trying to get the best of me :0

I've just joined this group as well. Met my goal on Dec. 17.
I've weighed myself daily from the start and continue to do so. Years ago I also took a weekly average, which was great for smoothing out fluctuations.

Not a lot of activity on this thread but I guess most MFPers are focused on losing the weight, not so much on maintaining it! I am not quite at goal (5 lbs or so to go) but have been maintaining since about August. I consider that a success in its own way and credit a certain amount of hyper-vigilance that I've accepted as my lot in life in order to keep my weight under control. I began my (latest) weight-loss effort in March '12 and have logged my food daily, right up until late-October '13 when I just, with no planning, quit. I did eat Halloween candy, had a normal Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, and began having more snacks than normal. I had a little evening cereal habit going for awhile. What I found was that, for every corner I cut, the next corner was easier. That is just me. At any rate, I began logging food again on January 1 and feel like I am back in control again. I'd be happy to hear anyone else's experiences with maintenance, strategies, tips, etc.

There are still quite a few of us, but MFP created a Maintenance Subforum about 5 months ago. All the activity seems to have have moved there:

I'm 67. Maintenance is 1770. I'm 128, 5'4" I sometimes eat back my exercise calories, sometimes not. I exercise five days a week. a combo of strength training and cardio.

I'm also expending energy by choreographing Zumba routines because I'm a licenced instructor.

Hi all! I reached my goal weight earlier this spring, and have been struggling ever since to figure out this whole maintenance thing. At the moment, I'm still loosing and I don't really need to any more. I'm slowly bumping up my calorie allotment so hopefully it'll settle down soon.
I've lost 42 or so pounds in the last year and now I just want to keep it off!
