Getting to know everyone

Hey everyone!
I hope that everyone had a great weekend, and was able to stick with their goals. I apologize for not being as involved this past weekend. I know we are getting to know each other a little more and more, by sharing stories, our workout routines and our food diaries. But I thought I would ask some questions, feel free to answer, or not; whatever makes you feel comfortable.
1) What is your favorite music (band, song, solo artist)
a) What is your favorite music to listen to when you are working out, or do you not listen to music?
b) If you do not listen to music then do you watch tv, read a book, or something else?

I will wait to ask the other questions, if there is something that you think would be interesting to ask, please let me know. I know that this is about getting healthy, but I think it might help to get to know each other better. Especially for those that are not from the US... maybe we can find something new that we did not know about before. :)

Since I'm older than a lot of folks in are group, I must admit to liking "Big Hair" rock, LOL! I don't listen to it exclusively, but I have my share of it on my iPod. I also have some Disco (no kidding) and classical music, too. Other genres I like are: oldies (for me, I'm talking 50's oldies, you gotta love Elvis! LOL), classic rock, old school rap, punk, grunge, alternative, and some classic hip-hop. And although I'm not a country music fan, I also have some country on my iPod. A lot of my country songs are about whiskey drinking or women chasing, but I must admit to having Shania Twain on my iPod, too! (embarrased) I guess I have a wide variety of musical interests, but the most important thing to me is tempo and the energy level. If I'm doing speedwork (although I don't have the lungs & legs to go fast YET, I can still call it speedwork, right?), I want something with a fast tempo. If I'm doing a "slow" walk, I want something with a moderate tempo. When I'm climbing a big hill on my bike (and on the bike trail - remember safety first), I MUST have classical music! I guess it all gets down to the perceived effort that I'm doing when it comes to musical preference.

Nowadays, I must say my favorite band is the Foo Fighters. Unfortunately they're getting older (they've been around almost 20 years) and I don't know how much longer they'll stick around. I've liked Dave Grohl since his days with Nirvana.

I never listen to music while cycling (unless I'm on a bike trail - but I always keep the volume low so I can hear other cyclists' calls) - safety first. When I used to run outside, I always listened to music (but again, low volume - safety first). I even have a underwater MP3 player (no kidding). It's great for when you have a long swim planned. I could never count laps very well, I just focused on time. Nowadays, If I walk on the treadmill at night, I'll do it while watching television (just regular TV, nothing special).

Oh ya, when I'm doing yardwork I listen to fantasy football podcasts.

1 . Music....mmmh, I like lots of different music. My favorite changes with my mood. I like the 80's hairbands, some older country, the 80's pop, classical music and the old R&B.....
    2. I walk, swim and ride the bike at the gym on a regular basis …… when I walk I listen to books on tape (currently the final Tom Clancy book "Command authority") ….. when I swim I just think…….and at the gym (on the exercise bike ) I watch TV on my phone. I am originally from Germany and I download German television episodes onto my phone (I have been in the US for over 22 years and at home we watch “American” TV)….

Music - more embarrassing pleasures... LOL

Madonna, Rihanna, Christina Aguilera, and Katy Perry. I have more songs on my iPod from these artists than I'm willing to admit. :blushing:

Hey M, just cause im a littlw younger does not mean I dont appreciate the oldies! I too love elvis, johnny cash and country :) I also have a country playlist on my music which I adore which does include red solo cup, wagon wheel and cruise. Some good new country out there!
  • Hey Everyone, Thank you for responding. It is interesting to see what people like. My husband LOVES the 80's and so since being married have had an 80's education. lol. I love the oldies, but Country is my absolute favorite to listen to on a regular basis. Like M. I love to listen to music with a beat if I am working out, something to give me a beat to walk to. I just have to be careful, because some music makes me want to break out in a run. LOL. Some bands, would be ACDC, Guns and Roses, Poison, Imagine Dragons, Etc.

M: Why did I never know about the MP3 that can go in water, I mean honestly where has this been all my life? I had no idea, and I was wondering if such a thing was possible, is it super expensive though? So I usually just think since I had no idea about such awesome things as waterproof MP3. I guess the headseats are too?

They make different flavors of underwater MP3 players. Way back when, it seems like I paid about $75 for mine (I had money back then). I just looked on Amazon and they range from $100 to $150 (but I'm sure there's always a more expensive model, lol). Of course, I would look on eBay for Craigslist if I was in the market for one. Matter of fact, I should probably think about listing mine because I need new running shoes more then I need an underwater MP3 player - heck, I don't even belong to a pool right now, LOL!
