I just joined your group since it is for people with over 100 lbs to loose and it seemed small ,yet active. That is kind of what I am looking for since I do take MFP pretty serious. I started on 2/17/14 have been on the site every day except 2 days recently. I recorded my food and exercise on the mobile app, but was on a camping trip in an area of Texas (Garner State Park) without any cell phone reception. I hated it, broke my perfect record….:-(
I have found that I do very little in common with people trying to lose 10-30 lbs. I think, it takes an obese person (current or former) to understand another obese person. Obesity and the side effects are a serious health problems where having to lose 25 lbs to get into smaller size jeans is more a vanity problem aka mental health problem.
I am older (49), the proud mom of a Marine and a happily married Army wife, grandmother of one young lady (6month old), have always been overweight or obese (I started my first diet at age 12….)I think, I have finally found what works for me (took way to long, but I am very happy with it)….. I started MFP with at least 271.4lbs (123.2kg) on 2/17/14 and a goal of 154lbs (69.9kg) ….. I am 5’6” (168cm) tall.
My desire is not to look like a model (that would not work at my age anyways), but to be healthier and live longer. I started my journey with my husband, who wanted to lose 27lbs (12.2 kg) He has reached his goal, but is still recording his progress and is trying to find a healthy way to stabilize his weight (he lost 44lbs (20kg), is now down to 168 lbs on his 6’ (183 cm)). He is very supportive, but I am looking for people more like me: never been able to beat the bulge…..
Please let me know, if you guys are okay with me joining or if you feel I do not fit….
Thanks and happy exercising/ healthy eating
Karoline

While I can't speak for the group moderator, I'll send you a friend request.
I agree with most everything you said. Sometimes I literally laugh out loud at people who think they're SO fat because they have 20 pounds to lose (and they weigh 140 or something ridiculous like that). Those people may not necessarily be vain, but they're definitely not obese and don't know what it's like to have a challenge buying clothes because most stores don't carry your size. I think a lot of these (what I call) skinny folks don't realize that some of us are on MFP because we're so overweight that we have health problems due to our weight. A lot of us are morbidly obese and need to lose weight to save our own lives!
Your progress bar shows you've lost 62 pounds so far... that's FANTASTIC! You're getting close to meeting your goal weight, and I'm sure if you keep doing what you've been doing you'll knock off those last 25 pounds.
Keep at it, you're doing great!0 -
Thank you....... I did not realize I forgot to adjust my ultimate goal to 154 lbs......I set the thing in steps, since I had sooooo many diet failures in my life......the first step was 208 lbs aka my per-pregnancy weight .... the second was 185 lbs aka my high school graduation weight/ just below obesity weight......the third and last is 154 lbs aka the healthy range weight........I did not want to jinx myself, lol...
and yes, it is important for us to shed those pounds, since they affect our health. I found the word diet is a total turn-off. It implies a temporary eating restriction before going back to normal...... I call it lifestyle change!..... What has helped the most is, besides my husbands support, is that I still can have the DQ blizzard (just a smaller size and only once in a while), that favorite burger etc. I have learned to adjust my day so I can include a treat once in a while and that exercise does not have to be horrible. I am still learning to like the sweating, but I am getting there.0 -
Omg already liking u! I call it a lifestyle change too! Always room for one more here ie the name the more the merrier. Our moderator, is awesome! Her name is armywife and some numbers I cant remember, but shes cool as! Go u for being so proactive with mfp. I only just started using this one. Im at 14days I also use map my walk which I loveee cause I know how fast/reality slow im going.
Feel free to add me if u ever wanna chat
And yep I too find it hard to relate to people who have quite a lot less to lose and dont seem to feel the weight problems and eating problems the way I feel them.0 -
Hi Kspenglermoor, Welcome, Of course there is always more room for more, we never turn anyone away. Even if you only had a few pounds to shed, because this is about a lifestyle change and not just about losing weight. But I do totally agree that there are different struggles for people that have a 100 or more pounds versus someone with 20-40 pounds to lose. I am so excited that you joined the group and please feel free to message me if there is anything that you need that I could help you with. You sound like you are on the right path, so GREAT JOB!! (I wrote a post yesterday but it got lost when the computer crashed on me). You said you were from Germany, what part, my husband was at the medical hospital there. He loved it, and wishes we could move there? I am from Texas, and this week has been pretty nice as far as the heat, even though it is hot it is not completely unbearable; slight breeze. I also agree that it is good to make sure that you have that treat every once in a while, so a scoop of ice cream, and not the whole bowl full, or a sip of a drink instead of ordering one all for myself. Sorry it has taken me a few days to respond, let me just say I HATE under all things the VA. I will it at that for now, Thank you for telling us a little bit about yourself, and I look forward to going on this journey with you. I hope that we are able to give you the support and encouragement you need. Keep it up, your doing great!
