Dairy free fat/protein snacks?

Hi there. I apologize if this topic has been covered, I did a few searches but didn't turn up anything specifically LCHF related.

I'm looking for some help with snack suggestions. I can't eat dairy. I also have something called "fruit latex syndrome" so I also can't eat bananas or avocados, which would make this so much easier.

Currently, I make my own version of fat bombs (coconut oil, cocoa powder, truvia and vanilla) but when it comes to anything else, I'm really at a loss. I do like to get a fair amount of protein too, I have my macros set at 35% protein, 35% fat, and 30% carbs (basically I try to keep the carbs under 100g a day, and try eat as much protein and fat as I can). I want to lose weight, so I am eating at a calorie deficit.

I LOVE the chocolate, so I don't have a problem getting my fat % there, but I also think I could probably benefit from getting some fat from other sources, I'm just not sure where to start. I also can't seem to get enough protein. If I eat as many grams as my profile is set to, I feel overly full, sometimes to the point of nausea. I also can't eat more than 2 eggs a day or (this is embarrassing... :ohwell: ) I get really bad gas!

A bit more info that may help: I don't mind eating animals, and I am not afraid to use bacon drippings for anything. I am on a somewhat limited budget though, so some things are hard to come by. I'm more than willing to make stuff, I actually prefer to do so as opposed to just eating out of packages and boxes. I look forward to hearing your suggestions!

    Firstly, I would lower your carb intake a bit a raise your fat percentage. Your macros are not LCHF. They should be closer to something like 65% fat/ 25% protein/10% carbs, or similar.

    I would buy some inexpensive, high fat hamburger meat, like 80% lean, and make burgers. Also, bacon, chicken, fish, eggs, pork, and tofu. Add olive oil or coconut oil during cooking and after. Bananas are definitely not part of the LCHF life, so it's ok that you can't eat them.

    Thanks those are good suggestions. I'm not being super strict about the "LCHF life" thing, and I find it hard to keep my carbs that low (I like fruit and vegetables too much!)

    I am okay with meals, it's more snack ideas that I'm looking for. I mention bananas because they are really good in smoothies, I love the texture and flavor, and I haven't found a suitable substitute, taste-wise. But thanks again.

    Any other suggestions?
  • Not very original but as snacks I have coconut, nuts or nut butters(usually on celery) , cubes of meat and protein shakes

    I've been having what I call a "crack smoothie" lately, because it's downright addictive:

    1-2c coconut milk
    1.5tbsp cocoa powder
    4tbsp heavy cream (you can probably substitute coconut cream)
    2tbsp peanut or other nut butter
    A handful or two of your favorite greens
    Sweetener to taste (I just use plain sugar, but strawberries work well, too)

    That recipe will make about 500 calories' worth, though, so account for that either by working it in or decreasing the recipe.

    Other than that? Jerky is a good option. Veggie chips might be good, too -- dip them in butter, high-fat dressing, nut butter, mayo, etc.

    On a side note -- you might want to try eggs from a different farm. I know some people react to the things the animal eats, so there's a chance that your GI issues may actually be something the hens are eating and not the eggs themselves.

    The crack smoothie sounds great! I don't mind a higher caloric intake for breakfast, I usually eat more in the morning anyway.
    I did just get some beef sticks last weekend, so that helps.

    Good point about the eggs... unfortunately I don't have room in my budget to be that picky. I buy what's on sale

    It looks like http://www.thespunkycoconut.com/ also focuses on gluten free and paleo. I'd also check them out.

    Paleo isn't really LCHF, but it sounds like it more aligns to what you're eating anyway.

(Because of type 2 diabetes, I'm trying to stay low-carb more than paleo, but I think the lists and information from the two complement each other well to create a WOE better than what the ADA suggests!)
