Hi! I'm just starting out in MMA. I've been doing powerlifting. What are your thoughts on continuing powerlifting while training MMA? Good/bad idea? Do they compliment each other or detract from one another?

Power lifting is a great workout. It strengthens the core and core strength is a must to be good at MMA. Lift away!!!

Ya power lifting is great for MMA. So is swimming, calisthenics, etc. Just be sure not to over train!! Be sure to tell your MMA instructors about your other activities as well

It isn't that power lifting is bad...it's just that there are better ways to be in shape for MMA. Focus on things like core strength, balance and speed. Swimming like mentioned above is great...also HIIT type of workouts are great.

If you have a Title Boxing Club near by or something similar in concept, it is great for getting in shape because you work on your strikes while getting in shape. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing about title boxing club that is actual boxing.....but for a workout addition to your training...it is an awesome workout.
